"It's worth a try, do you still have the hairs?" Li Mei held her hand out to Nick clearly wanting to examine the hairs he'd collected from Ethan.

Working on raw animalistic instinct the gnolls react to the were-owl's presence before anyone else. Each of the beasts leaps up snapping at his outstretched wings trying to seize the bird and bring it to the ground.
These gnolls are not to pleased to have George in their midst, and their Hunger is kicking in making them eager for a snack.

Putting on a dizzying aerial display George flits between each of the gnolls gnashing maws one after another losing nothing more than a few feathers as he dives and flutters out of their reach. As the last of the beasts slams its jaws together George sweeps up safely int the shadowed rafters vanishing from sight.
Ethan notices the blonde next to him pulling a small dagger out from a sheath strapped around her thigh.

Francis gathers power to him, drawing on the magic that saturates the Nevernever. He shapes the power and gives it purpose with a cry.
"Brāzma!"
Conjured by his power and controlled by his iron will, gale force winds begin to rip and howl throughout the stable. Bits of straw and other debris is carried aloft, caught in the wind's grip.
With movement exploding all around him, Ethan quickly backs away from pack of gnolls while drawing his side arm.
Guessing that the woman is about to start casting, he draws a bead on her and takes aim.

If I'm able to, I'd also like to draw on Ethan's aspect: Investigative Justiciar of Themis using the idea that he's used to fighting spellcasters.

As the wind kicked up carrying straw and debris with it like a small localized tornado in their midst the stabled horses panciked kicking their way out of their stalls. Shards of wood the size of lawn darts shower the floor as the massive beasts charge out into the stable. The hapless ogre put himself between the only entrance and the crazed horses clearly intent on stopping any of the animals from escaping.
Ethan's bullet tore through the blonde woman's shoulder and sent her sprawling to the ground. She got back to her feet quickly enough to confirm that whatever she might beshe certainly wasn't human. Rounding on Ethan she raised her dagger and hissed through gritted teeth. "Incedium!"
A wave of fire from the tip of her dagger and swept towards Ethan in a blazing streak.
At the same time the gnolls were busy avoiding the crushing hooves of the horses while they sniffed wildly in search of George.
I'm adding a temporary aspect dubbed Stampede! to the scene. No one can get out without going through that orge and these horses don't look happy at all.
Athletics to dodge a bullet.4d6+34. Looks like the gnoll queen isn't quite as good at dodging as her pack. She takes 2 points of stress from that hit.

Looking around at his surroundings, he mutters "I hope she doesn't set this whole place ablaze...maybe taking cover behind a wooden stall isn't the best idea against fire."
Nick had witnessed several of Li Mei's martial arts demonstrations since the monkey princess had settled in Washington, he'd even participated in some of them. His size and strength allowed him to go toe to toe with her in a way that most people simpyl couldn't. As he watched her vanishing into the distance ahead of him he realized that she was running faster than he'd ever seen her move during any of their matches. He also caught her scent on the air and knew at once that whoever he was chasing it wasn't Li Mei.
The imposter rounded the corner with a considerable lead on him and he knew that if he didn't close the distance quickly he risked losing her for good.
The woman paced on the other side of the stall waving her dagger as she looked for some sign of Ethan. "I was going to let the frong prince have his fun with you, but he'll have to be content with the wizard. Indcendium!"
Pointing the dagger at the stall she sent another, much larger, jet of fire soaring towards him. The fire came nowehere close to burning Ethan, but it did set the stall he was hiding behind abalze. Fed by the dark wood of the stable and the straw littering the floor the flames began spreading quickly.
Meanwhile the gnolls turned their ire on the only threat in sight, Francis. Five sets of yellow eyes locked on the wizard and each of the beasts charged him howling.
Destroyah keep in midn that each of those attack counts as a Weapon: 2 attack. By the way remember all those times the Alphas fall on something at once and tear it to shreds. Hopefully this doesn't end up like that.

Sniffing the damp air Nick managed to pick up the imposter's scent as her rounded the corner, he followed her trail arriving at the mouth of an alley. He stared down the darkened alleyway and spotted Li Mei climbing over a chainlink fence halfway down the alley like a monkey climbing a tree.
She stopped at the top of the fence staring back at Nick clearly surprised to see him hot on her heels. Smiling nervously she pursed her lips at him and then dropped down out of sight onto the other side of the fence.

As the Gnolls fell upon him, Francis had to use long neglected self-defense lessons to avoid being ripped to bloody shreds.
Even then, the wizard barely stopped the combined assault and took several wounds for his trouble. The most serious were three bloody tracks directly underneath his left eye, though one shoulder felt like it had been nearly dislocated. Breathing heavily and blood trickling from the three slashes on his cheek, Francis spat out two words. "My Turn."
He gathered power to him, more power than he had wielded save all but a few dire situations.
"Viesuļvētra Vējš!" The winds responded to his call; gaining intensity and focus. Winds that had been whirling this way and that, interfering with other air currents, now began moving in concert. A massive tornado formed in the interior of the barn, roaring with ferocity barely restrained.
The howling tornado winds threw Francis about like a rag doll, slamming him bodily into an unyielding wooden wall. After that, all was darkness.

That's a weapon:6 hit to everyone in the zone.
Rolling Athletics to see how much stress I take. Athletics (Avoiding Francis's spell): 4dF0 uhoh (though that's about what I expected.) Even taking an extreme consequence wouldn't mitigate 7 and 6 stress, I'd have to take both a severe and an extreme to stay standing. Seems a mite early in the story (to me) to be pulling that out.
So If I am allowed, I'm going to say that the zone-wide attack has knocked Francis completely unconscious.
As George swept down at her the gnoll queen managed to swat the were-owl out of midair with her free hand. However the distratced her long enough for Ethan to bury another round in her torso. Turning with her hand pressed over the freely bleeding wound she bared pointed rapidly growing teeth at him. Then the tornado Francis had conjured picked her up and tossed her across the barn like a child's plaything. She screamed in a mixture of fury and terror as she was carried off, but her voice was carried away by the howling wind as the tornado swallowed her up.
The gnolls were each lifted off of the ground and sent crashing around the barn violently bouncing off of one another. One hit the wall so hard that George heard its neck snap like a Christmas crack. The maddened horses and the ogre vanished in the vortex as well.
The imposter stared at the charging were-bear in horror as she turned to run, but Nick had the advanatge now. Her hesitation had left her within striking distance.

Ethan quickly throws up his arms over his face as the full force of the tornado bears down on him. The wind picks him off his feet and slams him into one of the burning walls of the stall lighting his jacket on fire. He drops to the floor in order to smother the flames once the winds subside but not before picking up some angry looking burns.
Athletics to dodge tornado: 4dF+44
Taking the following consequences: winded (minor) and first degree burns (moderate) to reduce down to 4 physical stress.
Stress box 3 is marked off. 1, 2, 4 stress boxes are remaining.
Ethan coughs as he picks himself off the floor. "That's one hell of a haymaker Francis."
As Ethan looks over and sees Francis's unmoving body, a worried expression flashes across his face before he steels himself to finish the fight. He quickly looks around for George to ascertain his well being before taking aim at one of the gnolls.
The imposter shrieked as Francis brought her down and her features began to warp before his eyes. In the dimly lit alleyway the transformation was difficult to observe, but in a matter of second Li Mei’s face had been replaced with that of another young woman. Her hair had been cropped close to her head leaving her nearly bald, and what remained of her hair had been dyed a sickly shade of green. She looked thin and her wide yellow eyes were locked on the snarling bear on top of her.
“Please don’t kill me! I’m sorry! He told me he’d share his stash with me if I could get some hairs off of you.” She opened her hands and released the hairs she’d stolen which were washed out of her open palm.
Francis, Ethan, and George
A mound of blood stained straw shifted near Ethan revealing the dark skinned arms and legs of a woman beneath it. As she rolled up into a seated position her round features and sharp brown eyes took in the devastation around her with mild interest. Even though soiled straw clung to her in large patches it was still obvious that she didn’t have a stitch of clothing on. She tried to stand up but her legs buckled beneath her weight forcing her to fall forward onto her knees.
“This will take some getting used to.”
Two of the gnolls emerged from underneath more of the straw shaking the bloodied weeds out of their filthy fur. They limped over towards the strange dark skinned woman and she wrapped her fingers in their fur as she hoisted herself up.
The woman smiled at Ethan. “I think we should leave before that ogre comes to his senses.”
She traced her finger a long a long gash along the back of one of her gnolls and held it out in front of her. The finger was stained crimson. She whispered something under her breath and traced a circle in the air in front of her. A circular opening appeared, the parking lot they had left moments ago lay just beyond it. Aided by her gnolls the woman limped through the portal.
Meanwhile George, who had been buried under a gnoll carcass, was nursing a wing that felt like a bundle of broken twigs.

Nick let go of the great bear form, scooping up the stray hairs. "Who put you up to stealing the hairs? And, please, don't try to run. I can track you, I can run you down, and the last few hours have been rough. Someone is kidnapping children, my friends have been abducted, and impostors are trying to steal my last link to them." He sighed. Another young woman in distress. What's wrong with this city?
Consciousness crept up on Francis and ragged him back to the waking world kicking and screaming. The energy that he’d just poured into his spell, not the mention his injuries, had left him exhausted. Sensation came to him before sight. He was warm, dry, and comfortable for the first time in hours. The soft touch of expensive fabric and the fact that he was laying down suggested that he was in a bed, but it certainly wasn’t his own.
Opening his eyes he found himself in an unfamiliar room and a strange bed. And what a bed! The enormous wooded footboard of a sleigh bed curled back towards him. The downy blanket he’d been wrapped in was a soft white, as were the sheets, and the pillow cases. A wardrobe that certainly looked big enough to hold a lion, a witch, and a quartet of English kids rested against the wall. The rest of the furniture fairly standard including: a desk, an easy chair, and a pair of nightstands on either size of the king size bed. There were also two gnolls. One of the mammoth canines had fallen asleep in the door blocking it entirely. No one was getting out that way without stepping over him. The second gnoll was watching Francis carefully from the foot of the bed.
A gorgeous woman with skin the color of expensive coffee stepped into the doorway, stopped when she noticed Francis was awake, and smiled a perfect smile. She was wearing a fluffy terrycloth robe and doing a really good job at it. The robe parted now and then offering little glimpses of her legs. She was balancing a covered serving tray on her arm and holding a blue coffee mug in one hand. “Good I see you’re finally awake. The doctor bandaged your cheek for you while you were unconscious, and he also left these.” She tossed a bottle of painkillers onto the blanket as she stepped over the sleeping gnoll in the doorway. Crossing the room she settled herself into the easy chair next to the desk, raised the coffee mug to her nose, and took a deep breath. If the expression on her face was any indication whatever was in that mug could cure cancer.
“He said you should take those with a meal so I ordered you some room service. I hope you don’t mind.” She set the tray down on the desk and removed the cover revealing a steaming platter of surf and turf. The nearer of the two gnolls lifted his head and sniffed hopefully in the direction of the food, but he dropped his gaze when his eyes met the woman’s.

The young woman stared up at Nick’s naked body and her cheeks reddened. She glued her gaze to her knees. “I don’t really know him alright? He got me into a club and we partied for a while. He told me that if I could get you to follow me back there he’d...”
The girl’s voice trailed off and she stared up into Nick’s eyes. “I’m sorry alright?”
I am going to compel Softhearted Steward to try and get Nick to take some pity on the poor girl.
Lie Mei
Leaping from one rooftop to the next with no more difficulty than she’d have had navigating the sidewalk a familiar sound stopped her in her tracks. She’d heard Nick roar a challenge with his billows lungs often enough to recognize it. Peering down over the edge of the rooftop she was perched on she spotted the were-bear looming over a young woman with acid green hair. The rickety fire escape dangling precariously from the side of the building kept her hidden, but it allowed her a perfect vantage point. She watched as Francis changed back into his human form, picked something up off of the ground, and then started talking to the girl.
I am going to compel Li Mei’s Mischievous Hero or Benevolent Trickster aspect here, but I’ll give you a choice on top of whether or not to fate point your way out of it. Li Mei can either remain hidden, or enter the scene in such a way as to take Nick by surprise.

Francis sat up in the bed, stifling a groan, "My thanks for the medical attention." No time like the present, he scooted to the edge of the expansive bed to sit on the side instead of lying in the center, "Now, if you will pardon the impertinence, I have more then a few questions. Though 'Where are we?' and 'Who are you?' will do for now." He caught the scent of the food, "Hmm, that smells heavenly. I hope it is real? Last I knew, I was still in the Nevernever, and only a fool would accept food of the wold between."
She brought the tray over to the bed and set it down on the bed. “My name is Cali.”
"We're in my hotel suite. This seemed like the best place to bring you after we left the Nevernever." She pressed the warm mug into Francis’s hand. The aroma of strong warm coffee filled his nostrils mingling with the mouthwatering smell of the food on his plate.

Francis took the mug gratefully, holding it for a moment and just savoring the warm cup in his hands as well as the scents filling the room, "Cali. Thank you my dear." He drank a sip of the coffee before tucking into the plate of food, eating quickly but neatly. Working magic really took it out of you and he was hungrier than he'd realized. Still, he made himself stop before finishing the entire plate, setting the tray aside and retrieving the coffee cup as he spoke, "Delicious. But I'm full, I couldn't eat another bite. You should have the rest or give it to your friend there." Francis nodded his head towards the watchful gnoll at the end of the bed, "He's been making eyes at the plate since you took the cover off. What is the story with the gnoll attendants anyway? Last woman I met that could command their loyalty wasn't exactly the most hospitable of sorts. And do you happen to know where my two friends might be? They were with me in the Nevernever, a police officer and an owl."
Cali took the mostly empty plate and set it down on the floor next to the gnoll who eyed the food anxiously but remained statue still. "It's alright, our guest has finished. The gnoll scooped the uneaten meat into hiss jaws and downed it with a single bit, and then he began licking the plate clean.
“In answer to your question these gnolls attend because they are mine now, thanks in no small part to you wizard. When you killed my sister in battle it allowed me to become what you see before you.” Cali leaned a bit closer to Francis and her robe slipped giving him a quick glimpse of her slender neck and shoulder. She was close enough to him now that she barely had to speak in more than a whisper.
“As for your friends they went to the hospital after we escaped. They were not pleased when I insisted on taking you with me but there was nothing they could do to prevent it. Their injuries were nowhere near as severe as yours if that gives you any comfort.”

Nick ran a hand over his face and through his beard. "Look, kid, it's OK. I'm not going to eat you. Would you mind showing me where he wanted you to lead me - or at least telling me?" He glanced at her sallow eyes, her skinny frame. "Do you need some place to stay, get cleaned up? I know a couple good shelters nearby. They're not glamorous, but a hot meal and a good night's rest can do wonders."
Li Mei dangled lazily from the fire escape, blonde hair dangling freely. "Hmm, you chased me with such vigor," she said, her voice light and airy. "I give you a seven out of ten. Good persistence, but the roar? Decidedly un-sexy."
Li Mei tilted her head. "You would rather I be someone else?" Her image rippled, becoming that of the neon green haired girl. It rippled again to another, a red-haired pale skinned beauty. "Perhaps this suits better? Hmm!"
With a light giggle she let herself fall from the fire escape and landed nimbly, letting the glamor go with it. "'Fool me twice, shame on me' is how the expression goes. I'm interested in why someone was trying to imitate me."
The girl stood up slowly keeping her eyes on Nick and her pressing back to the wall of the alley. "Thanks but I already have a place. I guess I can take you back to the club since that's what he wanted me to do anyway."
A look of absolute terror swept over her face while she watched the Monkey Princess land a few feet away after performing her effortless glamors. Her gaze began darting between Li Mei and Nick frantically. She pointed at Li Mei with a hand that was trembling violently. "Why didn't you tell me you were with one of them?"

George’s arm still throbbed and every time he moved it he felt as though someone had set fire to his bones. David Meru frowned at George and tossed the first aid kit he’d been using onto his bed. “I’d tell you to take it easy on that arm for a few weeks but I know you won’t listen.”
After they’d left the Nevernever Nick had helped George get back into the dorms of Georgetown University. Nick had forced his way into David’s dorm room convincing him to reset George’s broken arm, and then he’d left to try and track down Francis on his own. He’d promised to call George when he had a lead, but he’d admitted that it would probably take him a while to come up with anything.
David began pulling clothes out of his closet and tossing them at George. His own clothes were long gone and Nick hadn’t had anything to give him except for his sodden coat. He threw him a pair of jeans and a worn flannel shirt admonishing him as he did. “Honestly George I don’t know why you put up with this nonsense. You have a future you don’t have to throw your life away fighting monsters.”
David Meru is a Pre-Med Seer who is studying at Georgetown. He is also the first stop for anyone in the superntural circles in need of medical attention much to his dismay. He has no interest in fighting the supernatural and his help is limited to band-aids and a bottle of aspring most of the time.

Guessing that the woman is about to start casting, he draws a bead on her and takes aim.
If I'm able to, I'd also like to draw on Ethan's aspect: Investigative Justiciar of Themis using the idea that he's used to fighting spellcasters.
If so, that would add +2 to bring the roll up to 7.

As the wind kicked up carrying straw and debris with it like a small localized tornado in their midst the stabled horses panciked kicking their way out of their stalls. Shards of wood the size of lawn darts shower the floor as the massive beasts charge out into the stable. The hapless ogre put himself between the only entrance and the crazed horses clearly intent on stopping any of the animals from escaping.
Ethan's bullet tore through the blonde woman's shoulder and sent her sprawling to the ground. She got back to her feet quickly enough to confirm that whatever she might beshe certainly wasn't human. Rounding on Ethan she raised her dagger and hissed through gritted teeth. "Incedium!"
A wave of fire from the tip of her dagger and swept towards Ethan in a blazing streak.
At the same time the gnolls were busy avoiding the crushing hooves of the horses while they sniffed wildly in search of George.
Athletics to dodge a bullet. 4d6+3 4. Looks like the gnoll queen isn't quite as good at dodging as her pack. She takes 2 points of stress from that hit.
Discipline(Controlling a 2 shift spell) to burn Ethan 4d6+1 4. This is also considered a Weapon: 2 attack so if it hits it inflicts an additional two points of physical stress.

Li Mei took the hairs and lept backwards landing on the edge of the lawn in a crouch. "Many thanks great bear, these willl prove quite useful."
The monkey princess charged down the slick sidewalk with superhuman speed her footfalls sending up great spalshes with every step.

Looking around at his surroundings, he mutters "I hope she doesn't set this whole place ablaze...maybe taking cover behind a wooden stall isn't the best idea against fire."
Nick had witnessed several of Li Mei's martial arts demonstrations since the monkey princess had settled in Washington, he'd even participated in some of them. His size and strength allowed him to go toe to toe with her in a way that most people simpyl couldn't. As he watched her vanishing into the distance ahead of him he realized that she was running faster than he'd ever seen her move during any of their matches. He also caught her scent on the air and knew at once that whoever he was chasing it wasn't Li Mei.
The imposter rounded the corner with a considerable lead on him and he knew that if he didn't close the distance quickly he risked losing her for good.
George, Ethan, and Francis
The woman paced on the other side of the stall waving her dagger as she looked for some sign of Ethan. "I was going to let the frong prince have his fun with you, but he'll have to be content with the wizard. Indcendium!"
Pointing the dagger at the stall she sent another, much larger, jet of fire soaring towards him. The fire came nowehere close to burning Ethan, but it did set the stall he was hiding behind abalze. Fed by the dark wood of the stable and the straw littering the floor the flames began spreading quickly.
Meanwhile the gnolls turned their ire on the only threat in sight, Francis. Five sets of yellow eyes locked on the wizard and each of the beasts charged him howling.

Even then, the wizard barely stopped the combined assault and took several wounds for his trouble. The most serious were three bloody tracks directly underneath his left eye, though one shoulder felt like it had been nearly dislocated. Breathing heavily and blood trickling from the three slashes on his cheek, Francis spat out two words. "My Turn."
He gathered power to him, more power than he had wielded save all but a few dire situations.
"Viesuļvētra Vējš!" The winds responded to his call; gaining intensity and focus. Winds that had been whirling this way and that, interfering with other air currents, now began moving in concert. A massive tornado formed in the interior of the barn, roaring with ferocity barely restrained.
The howling tornado winds threw Francis about like a rag doll, slamming him bodily into an unyielding wooden wall. After that, all was darkness.

Rolling Athletics to see how much stress I take. Athletics (Avoiding Francis's spell): 4dF 0 uhoh (though that's about what I expected.) Even taking an extreme consequence wouldn't mitigate 7 and 6 stress, I'd have to take both a severe and an extreme to stay standing. Seems a mite early in the story (to me) to be pulling that out.
So If I am allowed, I'm going to say that the zone-wide attack has knocked Francis completely unconscious.

As George swept down at her the gnoll queen managed to swat the were-owl out of midair with her free hand. However the distratced her long enough for Ethan to bury another round in her torso. Turning with her hand pressed over the freely bleeding wound she bared pointed rapidly growing teeth at him. Then the tornado Francis had conjured picked her up and tossed her across the barn like a child's plaything. She screamed in a mixture of fury and terror as she was carried off, but her voice was carried away by the howling wind as the tornado swallowed her up.
The gnolls were each lifted off of the ground and sent crashing around the barn violently bouncing off of one another. One hit the wall so hard that George heard its neck snap like a Christmas crack. The maddened horses and the ogre vanished in the vortex as well.

As Ethan looks over and sees Francis's unmoving body, a worried expression flashes across his face before he steels himself to finish the fight. He quickly looks around for George to ascertain his well being before taking aim at one of the gnolls.

The imposter shrieked as Francis brought her down and her features began to warp before his eyes. In the dimly lit alleyway the transformation was difficult to observe, but in a matter of second Li Mei’s face had been replaced with that of another young woman. Her hair had been cropped close to her head leaving her nearly bald, and what remained of her hair had been dyed a sickly shade of green. She looked thin and her wide yellow eyes were locked on the snarling bear on top of her.
“Please don’t kill me! I’m sorry! He told me he’d share his stash with me if I could get some hairs off of you.” She opened her hands and released the hairs she’d stolen which were washed out of her open palm.
Francis, Ethan, and George
A mound of blood stained straw shifted near Ethan revealing the dark skinned arms and legs of a woman beneath it. As she rolled up into a seated position her round features and sharp brown eyes took in the devastation around her with mild interest. Even though soiled straw clung to her in large patches it was still obvious that she didn’t have a stitch of clothing on. She tried to stand up but her legs buckled beneath her weight forcing her to fall forward onto her knees.
“This will take some getting used to.”
Two of the gnolls emerged from underneath more of the straw shaking the bloodied weeds out of their filthy fur. They limped over towards the strange dark skinned woman and she wrapped her fingers in their fur as she hoisted herself up.
The woman smiled at Ethan. “I think we should leave before that ogre comes to his senses.”
She traced her finger a long a long gash along the back of one of her gnolls and held it out in front of her. The finger was stained crimson. She whispered something under her breath and traced a circle in the air in front of her. A circular opening appeared, the parking lot they had left moments ago lay just beyond it. Aided by her gnolls the woman limped through the portal.
Meanwhile George, who had been buried under a gnoll carcass, was nursing a wing that felt like a bundle of broken twigs.

Consciousness crept up on Francis and ragged him back to the waking world kicking and screaming. The energy that he’d just poured into his spell, not the mention his injuries, had left him exhausted. Sensation came to him before sight. He was warm, dry, and comfortable for the first time in hours. The soft touch of expensive fabric and the fact that he was laying down suggested that he was in a bed, but it certainly wasn’t his own.
Opening his eyes he found himself in an unfamiliar room and a strange bed. And what a bed! The enormous wooded footboard of a sleigh bed curled back towards him. The downy blanket he’d been wrapped in was a soft white, as were the sheets, and the pillow cases. A wardrobe that certainly looked big enough to hold a lion, a witch, and a quartet of English kids rested against the wall. The rest of the furniture fairly standard including: a desk, an easy chair, and a pair of nightstands on either size of the king size bed. There were also two gnolls. One of the mammoth canines had fallen asleep in the door blocking it entirely. No one was getting out that way without stepping over him. The second gnoll was watching Francis carefully from the foot of the bed.
A gorgeous woman with skin the color of expensive coffee stepped into the doorway, stopped when she noticed Francis was awake, and smiled a perfect smile. She was wearing a fluffy terrycloth robe and doing a really good job at it. The robe parted now and then offering little glimpses of her legs. She was balancing a covered serving tray on her arm and holding a blue coffee mug in one hand. “Good I see you’re finally awake. The doctor bandaged your cheek for you while you were unconscious, and he also left these.” She tossed a bottle of painkillers onto the blanket as she stepped over the sleeping gnoll in the doorway. Crossing the room she settled herself into the easy chair next to the desk, raised the coffee mug to her nose, and took a deep breath. If the expression on her face was any indication whatever was in that mug could cure cancer.
“He said you should take those with a meal so I ordered you some room service. I hope you don’t mind.” She set the tray down on the desk and removed the cover revealing a steaming platter of surf and turf. The nearer of the two gnolls lifted his head and sniffed hopefully in the direction of the food, but he dropped his gaze when his eyes met the woman’s.
Nick
The young woman stared up at Nick’s naked body and her cheeks reddened. She glued her gaze to her knees. “I don’t really know him alright? He got me into a club and we partied for a while. He told me that if I could get you to follow me back there he’d...”
The girl’s voice trailed off and she stared up into Nick’s eyes. “I’m sorry alright?”
Lie Mei
Leaping from one rooftop to the next with no more difficulty than she’d have had navigating the sidewalk a familiar sound stopped her in her tracks. She’d heard Nick roar a challenge with his billows lungs often enough to recognize it. Peering down over the edge of the rooftop she was perched on she spotted the were-bear looming over a young woman with acid green hair. The rickety fire escape dangling precariously from the side of the building kept her hidden, but it allowed her a perfect vantage point. She watched as Francis changed back into his human form, picked something up off of the ground, and then started talking to the girl.

George’s arm still throbbed and every time he moved it he felt as though someone had set fire to his bones. David Meru frowned at George and tossed the first aid kit he’d been using onto his bed. “I’d tell you to take it easy on that arm for a few weeks but I know you won’t listen.”
After they’d left the Nevernever Nick had helped George get back into the dorms of Georgetown University. Nick had forced his way into David’s dorm room convincing him to reset George’s broken arm, and then he’d left to try and track down Francis on his own. He’d promised to call George when he had a lead, but he’d admitted that it would probably take him a while to come up with anything.
David began pulling clothes out of his closet and tossing them at George. His own clothes were long gone and Nick hadn’t had anything to give him except for his sodden coat. He threw him a pair of jeans and a worn flannel shirt admonishing him as he did. “Honestly George I don’t know why you put up with this nonsense. You have a future you don’t have to throw your life away fighting monsters.”
