Lincoln or link as a baby name
I just wanted to get a few opinions on baby names. My wife is due in about a month and we are thinking of naming him lincoln or link. What do people think of these as names? We are keeping it a secret from all family and friends so i seek the internets opinion. My wife likes link but i think we could just use lincoln and shorten it. We're Canadian so people calling him Honest Ab and such wouldnt be a big deal. I feel calling him link would incur jokes about the legend of zelda. Thoughts?

that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
My opinion is that I hate car names for children; Lincoln, Aston, Mercedes, Porsche, Lexus, etc.
Well, the problem isn't what other people think, it's the name the kid has to live with.
Though, Link is better than Lincoln in my opinion.

That's what Lincoln "Link" Wray does. Just put Lincoln on the birth certificate and refer to him as Link when speaking. Double win.

Agreed. That way the kid will be able to choose for himself which he prefers.
If you want something short and simple that won't require a lot of explanation, Link is definitely the easier choice. That being said, Lincoln is clearly the more badass of the two names, because you can build in both stories at once. "We named you after an awesome President of the United States as well as an awesome video game character." I mean, the kid is going to be called Link regardless. No one will say Lincoln unless he himself makes it a point to reinforce throughout life (much like those people who are like "MY NAME IS DAVID NOT DAVE OMG.").
Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda after the video game character. I'm pretty sure she's OK with it.
These are some sophisticated little bullies.
While people name their kids all sorts of stupid/misspelled things, you may wish to consider that this actually has an impact on their success in later life.
I'd say go with Lincoln and shorten to Link as desired. It doesn't 'work' have as easily trying to go the other way around.
Lincoln seems like a pretty good name, and can be shortened as usage or situation demands it, so I'd nominate it as the better of the two.
(His name was lincoln alexander hence my previous post).
Canada has sophisticated everything.
But I would say go with Lincoln, and just call him Linc if that's what you want to call him.

If you think your child is going to freak out about their name down the road, you can give them a middle name that also works as a first name. I new a guy whose name was Charles and he went by Andy, which was neither his middle name or any other name but a nickname. Plenty of people are just called something else if they want to be.
My girlfriend's name is Rita and it's not short for Margaret. She likes it that way, too.
Im sure people will say "who cares name him what you want" but he will be faced with this reality for his entire life.

Naming him Lincoln gives him the option of going by Link later in life if he so chooses. You wouldn't name your kid Mike or Dick, you name them Michael or Richard and they abbreviate as they want. I mean, what if he grows up to be an X-bro and plays a lot of HALO 13? Going by Link would just be a baby console game nightmare. Poor kid. How can you be so insensitive?
if you were assigned a lawyer would that lawyers name make you think, well i am screwed
more or less the jist of it
