Matrix: Path of neo, any good?

Yes, I know about the final fight with
Giga smith
and have heard about all the kooky crazy stuff near the end of the game, but I want to know if the gameplay gets any better.

I borrowed it off a freind and decided to play it for an hour and a half or so today. Okay, some very cool looking fighting in there and I actually said out loud "Crates? How origonal" after the guy on the other line said there are items in the crates, seconds before Neo said the exact same thing which made me laugh out loud. I'v gotten to the part where you fight your first agent (before you squish him), beat him up with my bare hands then flung myself off a ledge thanks to the shitty camera and lousy repsonse time on that damn jump button. Am I mising something here with the jumping? 20% of the time Neo doesn't seem to want to jump even when I'm running (I'v got a feeling you must be running at a certian speed to jump). So far I'v enjoyed the fighting such as keeping hoardes of bad guys at bay with kicking which was fun but does the combat really work that well when you start unlocking better powers and fight agents?

I know I'v only put about an hour or so into it and really shouldn't be able to judge a game, but I'm not putting much more time into it if the combat mechanics and conrtols don't pick up somehow later on. Sure, the 100 Smith fght looks great fun, but simply put I'm not having much fun thanks to how frustrating the controls and some parts of the combat are (I'm really not fond of using weapons and firearms right now, mostly due to the terrible camera). Hell, I enjoy a challenging fighting game as most of you know, but not when the challenge comes from fighting with crappy controls. I'm probably talking nonsense here as I'v only played for a short time, but so far I'm not impressed with the combat system, can anyone rectify that it gets a lot easier to pick up the combat later on and it generally becomes more fun to play?

I'v just been playing God Hand, Devil May Cry 3 and Viewiful Joe again so I was expecting a tight combat system from a reportedley good matrix game. Alternativley, are there certian cheats and codes I can use to unlock the best fighting skills/play the best bits of the game right away? Maybe playing that stuff will get me into the game a little more.

The combat definitely picks up when you start getting the upgrades for abilities and stuff.

Unfortunately you don't feel like much of a badass till you finish the "first movie" portions of the game. Lobby scene is fun though.

It's one of those games that should be put in the "bad games you love thread". It's not particularly good but it's fun to go in and pound on someone once in a while.

I haven't gotten past the infamous rooftop part yet. But I have played a later level (on somebody else's Xbox) and it's a lot more fun.

it's worth it for the mediocre platforming/action/whatever portions to get to the fights.

Just don't pay too much for it.

I thought it was 1000 times better then enter the matrix, and the ending to the game isnt that horrible considering they cant end it the same way as the movies, the ending movie however was a bit over the top, but hilarious none the less.

I had alot of fun with the game, some controls took getting used to, but i didnt have a pinch of problems with them ever. thought under a different name, people would be raving about a solid beat em up. Now that i think about it, some of the trainable moves, are a bit worthless, and when upgraded only really just get a new animation that looks cooler (the disarms mainly, but i never really found the need to use em). the Eccher (sp i know sorry) room was fucking awesome and its about time someone did something right with a level setting like that

Yea your safe with this one, again dont spend too much for it. Just dont ever ever ever EVER get enter the matrix, that game sucked so much balls. I remember buying it, playing it for an hour and then returning it back when gamestop still had the "no limits" return policy. When they asked me to write down why I returned it I wrote "it sucks balls" and left it at that. The counter people werent suprised. So yea, Path of neo = stupid fun, enter the matrix = gigli with a controller

I thought it was horrible. The shooting was just annoying and the hand to hand was fun for a level or two. I played through the game just to see the ending first hand, and that sucked too.
It's slightly better then Enter The Matrix, which was abysmal.

I'm one of maybe three people that actually enjoyed Enter the Matrix. Haven't played Path of Neo yet, but I've been meaning to pick it up.

I purchased it at a Circuit City $8 blowout, and I don't regret it. 50 bucks may have had a different story.

The only thing I didn't like about Enter the Matrix were the driving levels, the driving physics just sucked ass. Combat was really fun though, especially the hand-to-hand.

Path of Neo would have been such a fantastic game if the controls were the least bit responsive. And guns are basically useless - anyone who won't always dodge them will die just a quickly in a fistfight, and people don't shoot at you if you're in the middle of a combo. And the ants are still stupid. I did like the gloriously stupid ending.
"Fuck satori - here's a giant robot instead! And Queen!"
Rent it, or buy it cheap - it's easy to bitch about it in retrospect, but almost everyone bitching enjoyed the game enough to actually play it through to the end.

Dude I loved this game, I thought it was great fun just beating the crap out of everyone. A frustrating part or two but pure skill will get you through. I think I beat it in like two sittings (might have had to return it to work?)

I agree. It's a good beat 'em up that changes the pace enough to keep you interested. Just don't expect a masterpiece A list game or pay too much for it. There's some moments that actually made me go "Hahaha, oh shit that was nice". Like squishing Smith with the subway train or fighting the hundreds of Smith copies. Fun stuff.

And DON'T buy the PC version. I hear the controls are just horrible.

I agree on the game keeping things interesting by changing pace and location, but I'm up to the bit where you fight about 12 guys and smith in the subway station and during every moment so far I'v been thinking "come on, hurry up with this so I can get to the fun part of the game". I can't wait to see the Escher room.

One incredibly cool moment was on the roof. I kicked a guy high into the air so he was heading down to a lower section of the roof. I jumped up after him in focus mode, fell faster than him, landed just in front of where he was about to land and grabbed his legs before he landed, smashed him into the floor and then spun him around like 5 times before throwing him. the problem is when you do all the cool shit in this game it feels like it was an accident, plus the 10 attempts at trying to jump to the chopper, mostly missing because Neo simply refused to jump made me so angry.

The later stuff had better be worth it....

I swear I'm on the same wavelength as the characters in the game. As soon as I killed all the dudes in the lobby I asked, "Is that it?" and scant seconds later Trinity said the exact same thing. the same thing happened when I mentioned that crates were such an origonal idea to store stuff in and Neo made the exact same comment seconds later. Creepy.

The lesbian kiss scene was a total letdown though.

Okay, I can't find a level skip cheat and I'm hardly even looking at the screen anymore as I play. I'v just done 'The Key' mission and am fighting to protect the bodyguard in the clock tower but fuck it, I'v given the game enough time but the combat is so dull and unrewarding, the game is glitchy and the animations look nice in places, such as fighting guys all around you, but ultimatley suck. Crappy reponse time on the controls and I'v beaten nearly every fight by button mashing, which, seems to work better than TRYING to set up combos and such. He never jumps when I want him to for example, makeing it impossible to set up a cool launcher techniqe and then slam someone into a wall.

Fuck this shit, Ima gonna play some God Hand

Yeah, Pinkett-Smith was totally not enjoying that scene.
