New processor and MOBO, comp wont start

TrusTrus Registered User regular
Went out and bought a new processor and MOBO today. Got everything installed but now when I boot the machine it wont go past the "starting windows" screen. It doesn't freeze or anything since the colours of the window continue to move but it will stay on that screen until I restart the computer.

I should also note that the computer will successfully boot into safe mode so I'm assuming everything is installed correctly (the new ram and processor appear in Devices)

help?!

Sounds a lot like a driver issue. Best plan with a mobo upgrade is to reinstall windows. But you may be able to install the motherboard drivers in safe mode and get the OS working. It's almost certainly not a hardware problem if you're getting that far.

Well, this may not be directly related to your problem, but you should know that if you already had Windows installed before the hardware change, Windows HATES massive changes in hardware like swapping out the motherboard. So even if this isn't related to what's going on, you should be aware that Windows will, with 90% likelihood, whine at you about the change. You may (probably do?) need to reinstall Windows and go through Microsoft to get your copy of Windows reactivated. If you know your license key, you can use the phone option, which is automated and easy, or so I hear.
