Is this poster worth it? Need advice for Christmas Gift for Husband!

CuppicakeCuppicake Registered User new member
My husband has been complaining for years that he missed out on the Cardboard Samurai poster for years. I finally decided to break down and try to find one for the past few months, and just found one up on eBay. I don't really know if the price is worth it, though, does anyone know the worth on these things? The seller has three posters up, the Cardboard Samurai one, a Penny Arcade one, and Dr. Raven Darktalon Blood... I have no idea. They're all signed, and one is framed. What is a good price for these? I don't want to pay too much, but I don't know what they're worth. I just want a good gift for my husband :/

Is it the one with a starting bid at $250? Even that is waaaaay too much.

Is there another one up? That was the only one I was seeing. I was thinking about trying to grab it for the starting bid if nobody bids, but if that's too high... ugh. What is that poster worth?

That Darktalon print looks in horrible shape - lots of wrinkles, though could be a reflection. The CTS looks better, but price seems high. What it's worth is really just whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay.

Do you guys go to PAX? Maybe tickets and/or make it a longer vacation or something might be semi-PA related and not $250 for a poster.

There's not really a large PA Memoribilia Collector community that's categorizing and pricing this stuff.

I'll agree with esh though. $250 is silly.

life's a game that you're bound to lose / like using a hammer to pound in screws
fuck up once and you break your thumb / if you're happy at all then you're god damn dumb
that's right we're on a fucked up cruise / God is dead but at least we have booze
bad things happen, no one knows why / the sun burns out and everyone dies

Hm, okay. I see what you're saying.

We don't go to PAX, haven't been able to but I'll do some research and see if that might be a more worthwhile gift. Thanks!

PAX or Comic Con could well be worth it. My friend got a signed CTS poster for me from G&T when she went to Comic Con a year or two ago and I'm positive she didn't spend anywhere near $250.

Shoot an e-mail to Gabe / Tycho off of the main page and I'm pretty sure they could hook you up.

Alternatively let us send up the @RobertKhoo sign and see if he could lend a hand.

$250 is ridiculous and I'm pretty sure the PA guys would be the first ones to say that.

If the poster doesn't sell on ebay you can always email the seller a much more reasonable offer.

That seller is trying to sell all three at once. Offer him $50 for the one you want when his auction doesn't sell.

The last few times I've seen cardboard tube samurai cels go up on ebay, they've gone for around $500. When they first sold out, I saw a few go as high as $5000. They're worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them, but I doubt anyone is going to let the samurai one go for $50.

Whaaaaaa? Shenanigans. Someone lost their mind paying anywhere either of those figures. They're not-that-limited prints from a webcomic.

Ever been to a comic convention? I see people spend small to moderately sized fortunes on things that appear worthless to me all the time.

I've been doing some research, out of curiosity, and it seems like the seller is actually asking list price for all three together. Considering one is framed, they'll probably be taking a loss if it goes for starting bid.

That said, I am only looking for the one, not all three, so maybe I will send a message if it doesn't sell.

I doubt its really a custom frame in that auction. An off the shelf frame that looks a lot like the one in the auction runs about $36 at Dick Blick. The laser cels all came attached to that double mat along with the signed/numbered plate thing. That all being said, the combined original price for all the laser cels in that auction was something like $255 + shipping + whatever the frame cost him.

I don't always agree with Esh,

but when I do it's because he's goddammed right.

    Stay helpful, my friends.
