Hey I've been lurking (so to speak) here for a while.. never registered on the forums though, so here goes my first post, I did a search for this too and nothing turned up so without further introduction..
I'm thinking about buying myself a Nintendo DS and I'll have enough money to buy 1 game with it, maybe 2, and I'm not sure where to start, so I'm looking for recommendations.. Keep in mind that I'll be playing FF6 Advance at the same time.
New Super Mario Bros: Great old school mario game, if you liked those, you'll love this. Also has some very fun minigames you can 1 cart if you have friends with DS's
Elite Beat Agent: Rhythm game and one of my favourite games on the DS period. Very fast and at times very frusterating, but a lot of fun.
Phoenix Wright1 and 2: Both very fun old schoolish adventure games where you play the title character, a lawyer, who must search for evidence and go to court to defend his clients. Not for everyone but the writing and puzzles make these games very fun. Hotel Dusk is a more serious adventure game you might want to look at, but I haven't played it.
Brain Age: I like this one better then Big Brain Academy. I'm not sure if it'll actually make you smarter, but its fun and has a bunch of soduku if you're into that.
MarioKart Double Dash: This game is pretty fun if you play it with some friends, not so much if you play it alone.
ClubHouse Games: I don't own this one but one of my friends does and loves it. It's a whole bunch of minigames essentially, so good for wasting small amounts of time.
I would say New Super Mario Bros. is pretty fucking good and strongly recommend it, but I'm also going to suggest a title you'll find in the deal bin, or very cheap and used: Battles of Prince of Persia. You should be able to get it on the cheap, and if you like turn based strategy, it's fucking rad. It's so long and so fun and there's card collecting and deck building and it's like Fire Emblem only you change armies a lot and no one gains experience or levels or anything.
But deck building! Turn based strategy! You control it with the touch screen! It's a long game! Cheap!

MarioKart DS: This game is pretty fun if you play it with some friends, not so much if you play it alone.
Fixed. And it's still plenty fun with single player. Unlockable characters and karts, mission mode, battle mode vs. 7 CPU. NWC. There's a lot to the game!
ClubHouse Games: I don't own this one but one of my friends does and loves it. It's a whole bunch of minigames essentially, so good for wasting small amounts of time.
Since when did Chess and Bowling become mini-games?
Clubhouse Games is 42 games in one. Many of them are card games like Texas Hold Em and Crazy 8's and Old Maid and such, but there's also Chees, Checkers, Battleship, Backgammon, Bowling, Darts, Billiards, Mahjongg. Let's just put it this way, you'll like the majority of them. Three different modes to get the most out of the game and it also has NWC with color Pictochat with those in your friends list. Even if you get tired of the game after a while, you'll be glad you have it for those times when you have a few minutes to spare in an otherwise boring situation.

Wow, I never realized how awesome Clubhouse Games is. Does it teach you to play the games, though? I don't know the rules for many card games.
Advance Wars Dual Strike is the best game ever. Other must-have DS games are Ace Attorney 1 & 2, Mario & Luigi Partners in Time, Meteos, both Kirby games, Yoshi Touch & Go (it's this generation's Tetris in terms of addictiveness), Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk, Wario Ware Touched!, and of course New Super Mario Bros.
Don't go rushing into something just because it's trendy. If you can't think of a few games to buy on a system that's been out as long as the DS, maybe you don't need to thrown down this sort of cash after all.
Metroid Pinball rocks pretty hard though.

I'd have to agree. It feels really good for a digital pinball table.

It has rules for every game.
And yes, Mahjongg Solitaire sounds much more accurate.

the game teaches insanely well. very very descriptive. i dunno why they had to change the name of the games tho. if you can get a friend to play with you its tons of fun. and fun solo too.
Yoshi's Island DS (AWESOME, I can't believe this got left out)
New Super Mario Bros. (Super fun, good luck getting all of the star coins. I've been trying.)
Elite Beat Agents (More addictive than crack.)
Advance Wars: Dual Strike (it's pretty fun, very strategy based)
Clubhouse games taught me how to play dominoes for real (you know, not standing them up half an inch apart and knocking them over in a chain). I learned the game in about 5 minutes. Fun-wise it sucks compared to knocking them over, but I learned how to play.

I'd say Warioware though

Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow

Advanced Wars Dual Strike.
Either of those games will give you a cracker of a time.

I haven't played it as much as I have with EBA yet, but it's very funny.
just wondering, how do I got about recomending games with that?
I don't know about you, but I found it impossible to play on the DS Lite D-Pad. I could do it on the Phat, but note the Lite.
Except no one ever updates that thing.
Tetris DS
Trauma Center
In fact, I'm gonna lock this one because the one I linked is so much better. You know, one thread per topic and all that.
