Tonight's games included such hilarity as:
* Mediums charging into the Cave when our whole force was in there after already fighting with us in that very same location for the past minute in a pitched firefight.
* Heavies who, when being shot in the back by multiple mechs, stopped and did not turn around, letting us continue to shoot said Heavy in the back.
* Entire teams who just ignored Cave (both Frozen City & Forest Colony) and then positioned their LRM mechs without support and looking in the entire wrong direction to spot the 4+ man flank that was about to come up their backsides. Yes we did in fact primary the LRM boats.
Man, you guys are overreacting, this game is still really fun.
While I have certainly made plenty of hyperbolic comments, I think most, if not all, of us could effortlessly defend not playing right now. I'm happy for people that can still enjoy the game, but for the rest of us, something like 6 weeks of the same issue with one single build dominating the game completely and without effort is pretty intolerable, on top of months of severe issues before that. And on top of that top, the de-optimization of the game with the last several patches has actually and literally made the game simply unplayable to some folks due to performance issues. There really is a stack of good reasons why hardly anybody wants to play much right now.
Fair enough, but just looking at this thread makes it seem unplayable or something, which is not the case.
I hate to whine, but... basically, if you run into a streakcat who is less than 500M from you, you're probably dead. They barely need to aim, can move quickly, jumpjet, and worst of all, knock you around so you can't fight back effectively. It's not so much the power of the build, it's the inability to actually do anything about it. Once you're chain-stunned, you're a dead mech walking.
Edit* To clarify, some builds will obviously trounce others at close range. If I walk into a twin AC20 cat, I'm also probably dead, but he needs to actually aim and hit me, and I can try to dodge him. Same applies for pretty much any enemy; you can try and out-skill them (headshot or remove their weapons) or just run away if they're something big and heavy. Streaks leave no such option.

Haha, oh yeah, I totally forget about the bit where Streak Cats can hop around all day long and make it impossible to accurately target them, yet their weapons will endlessly hit right on target every time.
The one thing I can't forgive about the streak Catapult is that, since the launchers are a measly one ton each, those clowns are free to fit the giant engine of doom that I struggle to squeeze into my Cataphract builds.

1.5 tons actually, but yes, the drop in tonnage is mildly annoying.
damnit! i got one good game in last night before AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA from the baby. match wasnt even over yet before the hell started.
i had a good round too.
since i got drug out of bed at 330 this morning i ran a couple quick matches. finally fired up my jenner and was reminded i am horrible with lights. gonna drop the commando idea and go with hunches or cents.

Except you're not, really. While your cockpit may be shaking all over the place, your actual point of aim stays rock still where it was pointing before. It makes things more difficult, but it's not impossible to adjust and return fire at a Streakapult when it's chaining you, even if it's jumping.
So in an awesome bit of shit karma, the mech I have been grinding just so I can finish the elite slots and sell it, well, I got my last 4k XP and happly exclaimed over vent "IM DELETING THIS BIIIITCH!" and then proceeded to sell my mech before claiming the last elite unlock.

Start around 3m30s. This is the only one I have recorded, but last night I ate a couple of Streakapults with the Dakkaphract.
They're annoying, and the fact that a pile of streaks is like a CT-seeking AC20 at the moment is kind of bullshit, but they're not unkillable.
And if everyone drove Heavies and Assaults, Streakcats wouldn't be nearly as big of a problem as they are now.
Even more permissive: if everyone drove lights, mediums, and assaults, streak cats would only have themselves to fight. That would make me very happy indeed.
Like i said last night, PA should make a group of 4 SSRM cats, then literally just run in a fucking circle on our own base constantly typing STREAK CAT LOL and just wait for the enemy team to HAVE to come face us and just kill them all while continuously running in a circle around or base typing that out.

Yeah, the issue has never been that Streak Cats are immortal. I can (and often do) kill streak Cats with heavier/lighter builds than the Cat, but it doesn't change the fact that, if the Cat starts from max armor, you're going to be a crippled mess even if you do win because the only real damage streaks deal is vital damage to the CT. My first game after the last patch, I fought a Cat with no CT armor while using my fast AC/20 Wang with most of its armor; in the time it took for me to aim and land killing shots, he stripped all the armor off my side sections and put my CT armor in the deep red. Against any other mech, the damage I took would've been marginal since dodging and absorbing hits on my shield arm would've actually mattered; instead, it all just dumped into the center of mass and I lasted a matter of moments until another Streak Cat killed me in a single salvo. Sure, I killed the Cat, but it was already weakened and still threw back far more serious damage than it should have been able to.
Also, "there would be no Streak Cats if people wouldn't use heavies" is, while true, wholly superfluous. People shouldn't have to not play an entire class of mechs just to keep a horribly overpowered mech out of the game, even if it was possible to convince pubs in general to not pick heavies if they don't want to fight Streak Cats.

So, uh, how do you apply camo to your mechs? I selected my DRG-1C and all the color options are greyed out. The only way I seem to be able to unlock them is to select the PC Gamer skin.
The Dragon, IIRC, doesn't have the full range of camo paints implemented yet. Next patch, I think, because they had to convery a bunch of textures to a new format for it.
Now you're right. They have said they some of the earlier mechs need to have their textures reworked for their default skins to be paintable and that will arrive at a later time.
Oh I guess I will have to get a k2 for the dual ac20 fun then. Or try to figure out how that one cat had dual gauss AND dual PPC at the same time. That would be a nice and wacky build.

Well shit. I was gonna use the in game camo painter to demo some ideas I had for the DRG-1N mini I'm painting today. Oh well, guess I'll just make it up as I go along!
I kicked around a bit in MWO the past two days. The idea of playing ~50 matches to afford something larger than a Commando is irksome. Would it be worthwhile to spend the money on a Commando and use that to skill up my pilot and earn money to buy something bigger, or is it faster to go straight for a Jenner or a Hunchback or something?

Okay go down to what it says under light and tell me what is amazing about this. (Yes I know the joke).
The medium mech was far lulzier.
THEY SHOULD HAVE SENT A POET.
Why did I DO this to myself all these years?

Ah, the feeling of when someone gets a rig that can run all the things on high for the first time. Cherish it, for it'll only happen once.
It's sad, because it generally is very true.

Not running heavies isn't really an option here.
I only own Jenners (until I open up the elite skills for my -D).
Not being more than target practice for a team of streakcats isn't really an option here.
Pretty sure the 4X can't mount ac20's, what with the actuators and all. The other three can mount one in the torso without an XL.
This is correct. There is not enough critical slots to load an AC20 in the arms. When the Jager mech becomes available.....
In the meantime you'll just have to get your dual AC20 kicks in with a slow Catapult instead.
