Questions about CoX

Hey guys, I'm thinking about coming back to CoX, and I wanna know a couple of things before I join back up. I played on the CoH side, and quit playing roughly around the time that CoV came out, so I'm going to be playing the villain side. The wife is joining me in this endeavor, so I'll have a partner in evil.

So has anything really changed since CoV came out? I know the enhancements are different, but I don't know the details.

What is a good combo for us to play? The old tank/dmg combo is obvious, but we played a pair of controllers and dominated the game on the heroes side. I just want something fun.

Does the rewards system introduced in I8 count if your account went inactive? I want the wings, but I don't want to start from day 1. I should have about 3 years in my account, since I was a beta tester and played it since launch.

I'm aware that the official PA server is Virtue, but my timezone is all fucked up due to being in Japan. Are there any suggestions for a good Pacific Island/Aussie server or SG?

Thanks!

I believe the rewards only count months that you've paid for.

I hear that Mastermind minions are the tanks Villain sides. So one of those and one of the debuff/damage classes would probably work out best.

Yeah, the vet time includes all paid and unpaid active months you were in CoX. So, not cancelled time. For instance, when i came back I had 7 months vet time because of 2 months free and 5 paid months prior...not that I ever played then. My highest character previously was a 14.

Anyway, you can check your vet status at plaync.com under account. Just log into your account and under games, click Account Details under CoX and it'll give you your current vet total even if your account is inactive.

    Hope that helps you decide.

P.S. >.> not to be an ass, but this could have been asked in any of the 3 active CoX threads...

P.S.S. damn hell, I didn't know you could just buy the upgrades in GvE online for $10. https://secure.plaync.com/cgi-bin/Store.pl#group2 ah well, I got a free month, so it worked out to only 5 bucks extra but still...

Enhancment Diversification is in. I don't know if you had experienced that. It basically means that you shouldn't slot more then 5 DO's of any one type or more then 3 SO's of any one type because of diminishing returns.

As for good combos I would suggest making one of you either a brute or mastermind and the other can be anything including the two archetypes mentioned. Teams of two corruptors can also work fairly well though it will be a bit slower then if you had a brute or mastermind with the exception of some combos like fire/dark.

Brute=DAMAGE SMASH KILL BLARGH. Also can act as pseudo tanks though mastermind pets tend to work better.

    Mastermind= Pets plus some buffs/debuffs.

Corruptors= Damage and Defender sets..can be slotted to be a blasterish character or a defenderish character or a mix.

Dominators= Nice control with some damage thrown in for good measure.

Stalkers= Well..the general opinion of most is that stalkers are not that good. They are a hide and go stab class. They die fairly easily and you need to learn how to play them properly to be succesful. Not anywhere near as good as a Scrapper.

King explained the vet rewards and as for an Aussie server I have no idea. Morninglord is an Aussie though. Maybe you guys could team heh.

I love my brute, up front he's just a meh scrapper, but if he's taking a lot of hits his damage goes through the roof really quick. I'm an Elec/Elec so I have several AoE and multiple target attacks which really makes the Fury Brutes get shine IMO.

Though, have a flat chance to crit on Scrappers is nice too, I'm sure overall it balances out, but what I found out with scheme night (day) this weekend is that at least with my guy, brutes aren't really tanks. You have a def secondary, and I have 3 awesome toggles, but really you're just not a Tanker, you have good defense but you just can't handle the big mobs like a Tanker can. At least at low levels.

Thinking about picking up the AoE DoT lightning field at 16 though to see if that helps. Keeping aggro means a full fury bar which means dead mobs faster, so maybe brutes "tanking" isn't in taking hits, but in bringing things down faster so you don't have to take the hits.

Thinking of trying a mastermind on Virtue and sticking with it. I have (what I think) is a cool thug concept character. I've tried masterminds just for a bit, but I can't handle the early levels before you get multiple pets/attacks. So slow. But I think if I stuck with it I'd probably enjoy it. I love pet classes in other games, particularly Necros in Diablo 2 (I know it's not the same as having 30 skeles, but still).

Or maybe a Corruptor or Dominator.
