OK now I find out the second SHIELD volume never came out. What gives? Did Hickman never finish it?

    according to Dustin Weaver,

    http://dustinweaver.tumblr.com/post/37826889541/if-youre-doing-the-avengers-whats-going-on-with
"I’ve been told that SHIELD will be coming back for the last 2 issues. Issue 5 is drawn. We’ve only got issue 6 left to do, but Marvel wants to put them out close to one another. So they are holding off on putting out issue 5… I’m not going to let this series fall through the cracks. I’ve put to much work into it. I killed myself on Vol.2 #5. I can’t wait for you to see it."

Hmmm, probably some kind of female focused X book, as Wood seems to like to write his female characters.

    "Ride or Die?" asked Goku

"Ride or Die" confirmed Dominic Toretto, as they took off to find the Dragon Balls in hopes of reviving their friend Sonic

    ooo, Coipel

    I like Coipel

    X-23, maybe?

Probably an X-men event, Coipel is too top shelf to put on a C-list character book.

Maybe it has to do with the new mutations.

X-23 needs some love and needs to be placed on a good team.
And not have all her character development from her solo series ignored again.

... And not be murdered off in Avenger's Arena.

    X-23 maybe?

    Coipel is woo

    Wood is eh

X-23, if it is here, is also eh

  • TexiKenTexiKen Dammit! That fish really got me!Registered User regular
I thought Wood's best writing came when he was doing Generation X, and as long as he can hold back on the preaching with the mainstream Marvel stuff (it's fine for Ultimate) he should be servicable for either an event or launching the new teen book. At the same time though it would really make WatXM out to be secondary to two books then.

I just can't see it being an X-23 book, if only because if I had the choice to pick X-23 or Captain Marvel to put a top talent artist on for a female solo book to launch, I would put him on Carol's title, simply because Marvel owns Carol in terms of movies and is much more original than Wolverine clone.

also Hopeless does have X-23 locked down for the forseeable future, doesn't he?

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
Yeah, it isn't X-23. All of Arena's cast is off limits.

A New Mutants book is a solid guess, especially after Wood has been very successful with X-Teens in UXM.

Also woo this means a new announcement each day this week, since this went up on Monday. The only one we really know for sure is Heroes for Hire.

It would be pretty cool to have a Blade Runner-esque X-23 series where X-23 is the Replicant/Roy Batty character.

    Oh hey look Wonder Woman

Seriously though Cullen Bunn rules and that comic looks like it is going to rule too

Dani Moonstar, Hippolyta and Valkyrie as strong Independent superheroes who don't need no man

despite Misty Knight who even then is only eh and I am willing to be persuaded otherwise

I so want to see Marvel do WW better than DC ever could (which isn't a high ceiling).

But Deckard was a replicant, too. :/

I hate X-23's origin so much it hurts.

but with a bit of luck this could be awesome too!

As long as the new chick doesn't punch the Watcher and kill the Silver Surfer or whatever I don't really care (and she's more in line with Laurie as opposed to Idie on the likability scale).

I wonder if Phil Jiminez is going to hop around again and do some Marvel work.

I'm sure she'll be forgotten about a year or so after the title's inevitable cancellation after issue 12.

Whether or not Decker was a replicant was ambiguous.

I'm talking about having X-23 explore similar themes as Blade Runner because she is so much like Roy Batty beyond the whole "created to be a weapon and rebelled against their creators" thing. They were programmed to emulate humans but since they have little personal experience, they don't have a very good understanding of their own feelings and emotions. There is the whole idea of how even though they were never taught "good" emotions like happiness and love, they were also foreign to "bad" emotions like jealousy, hatred, doubt, etc. Even though they possess high intelligence and are very knowledgeable about a lot of things, they haven't had an opportunity to simply live and have very little practical knowledge beyond what they were made for.

However, Blade Runner used Roy Batty to deal with the whole idea of what it means to be human and how one is to surpass humanity not just in terms of physical abilities or intellect, where Batty was clearly superior, but also in qualities such as empathy and mercy.

it's ambiguous and based on the viewer's interpretations of things. it also isn't a marvel now comic even if there was a marvel blade runner comic adaptation!

Hippolyta looks like a DC Amazon, but not like Wonder Woman herself. But the Marvel character is an Amazon too, and there's nothing wrong with design homages that aren't rip-offs.

It's actually a very very high ceiling. The current Nu52 Wonder Woman is easily one of the best 3 books DC is currently putting out and the best it's ever been in the character's history. It's Wonder Woman, daughter of Zeus, and her estranged half-siblings, against the dickish Greek Gods and company with utterly fantastic art.

Hippolitya ain't new, duders. She was in Incredible Hercules a few times and even died, I think. From what I remember she wasn't very Wonder Woman-y and was very much Ares' daughter.

Why can nobody remember that there's a "d" at the end of Deckard.

  • KingofMadCowsKingofMadCows Registered User regular
Probably because other characters tend to pronounce his name "Decker" rather than "Deckard," so it's easy to forget. In fact, I think the first time you hear his name, it's pronounced "Decker." Anyway, I think the ambiguity of whether or not Deckard is a replicant is strength since either interpretation works. It's like how you can interpret Roy Batty's decision to save Deckard as either him proving that he's better humans by learning to show mercy or he simply wants someone to remember him.

    Best to leave it alone.
