I'm pretty sure that's just Darkmagic farting. Straining in panel 2, relaxed and enjoying the aroma in 3.

What is this I don't even.

Haven't heard that one, but yeah, it can get silly. David Weber's Safehold series is especially bad about it.

So what's up with the red face on the woman? Is she cold, blushing, or is that supposed to be something like freckles?

I assumed, since it didn't go away, that it was because it was really cold outside and that was the only exposed part of her face when her hood was up.

Anyways, guys, I'm new to this whole Acquisitions Incorporated thing. I googled it and found a few panels of comics I never read in the image search but couldn't actually find where to read them. Or listen to the podcasts. I would appreciate some links.

A bunch of podcasts are here. Probably the best place to begin :)

    1. (not present)
    2. "Wait, you're turning down the adventure? I won't get to show how awesome I am?"
    3. "The rightful order has been restored."

Meanwhile, Binwin's fixed stare (above the bodice, note) suggests that he's not having any of this girl or her story. Keep walkin', missy.

EDIT: Also, it might go without saying (but I will anyway) that this young lady has probably gotten coal for most if not every year of her life, and seeks to ... renegotiate accounts.

The current strip is reminding me of Hogfather. If you haven't seen it, it is totally, totally worth your time.

It helps a little to be familiar with Terry Pratchet, but it's hardly required. The lady with the funny hair is Death's granddaughter, the rest you'll pick up with no problem.

I get the impression that this story takes place before the PAX D&D sessions.

Possibly either before Series 1 (The Keep on the Shadowfell adventure), or after Series 1, but before Series 2 (when Wil/Aeofel officially joined the party).

Possible comic spoiler (from the podcast):
There's a bit in the 1st part of the 2nd series podcast where they discuss something about a 'Winterspire' Incident. Wonder if the comics will expand on that.

    News post reference for AL:
One of the more interesting, endlessly referenced events was the dissolution of a party member in magical acid, which I was unable to prevent.

To this point, fear not; Aeofel enthusiasts will get their cameo. I didn’t resurrect his mystical ass for kicks.

Except for a few songs here and there, I really enjoyed the addition of Paul & Storm in the 2011 (?) live game. Exactly the right tone, and the whole production made me think about D&D in a whole new light (as live theater rather than just a game for the players).

Well, judging by her semi-cross-eyed gaze and the blushing in panel 1, I'd say Jim was in the middle of casting lv3 Eroticism. Then in panel 2, her argument with Omin is causing some form of emotional interference, so Jim has to double his efforts, hence his look of stern concentration. Then in panel 3 he has finished his casting, leaving our "fair maiden" with a look of utter contentment and Jim with a look of smug satisfaction at another job well done.

I interpret Jim's madface in panel 2 as him remembering all the bullshit gifts Lord Wyntyr brought him as a kid.

Panel 3 is fart-face 'cause that's how he feels about Lord Wnytyr's shitty gifts. He farts on the gifts.

They fixed 'Wyntyr'/'Wynter', but Jerry using 'fey' when he meant 'fay' remains.

Both "fey" and "fay" are correct here. It's not a Tychpo.

Very very Pratchetty, but that's a good thing!

  • Mr. PutterMr. Putter Registered User regular
fey is an adjective not historically related to the noun fay, 'fairy', though the confusion is common and understandable, given fey's possible meaning, 'enchanted, otherworldly'.

Maybe not historically, but in common usage fey has become a noun especially in fantasy literature and gaming. Also, adjectives are sometimes used as shorthand for adjective/noun pairs: if all fey things are fey spirits, isn't fey spirit redundant?

That was literally their first dungeon. The one where Splug had to save them?

  • Mr. PutterMr. Putter Registered User regular
Yes, I acknowledge that the entangling has occured, I just thought it appropriate to here attempt some straightening, considering Jerry's wordsmithery. As for fey being used as a noun, as in 'the rich get richer', here it doesn't work, for it isn't plural; nor are all fey things spirits: one can also have a fey mood, man, child, etc.

  • delrolanddelroland Registered User regular
That's not my point. In the real world you would be correct, but within the context of a fantasy setting with fairies/satyrs/whatever, it is quite feasible that people only use the word "fey" in relation to those types of creatures, in which case it could very well be used as a noun: "fey" as shorthand for "fey creature".
