Carpet damage from dog claws?

ZekZek Registered User regular
My current apartment came with new carpet and I'm paranoid about doing any damage to it. My dog likes to run indoors, and when he does he insists on sliding across the carpet, leaving claw marks behind. It's nothing permanent on a short-term basis, but should I be concerned about this adding up to long term carpet damage? Any warning signs or whatever that I should be looking out for to monitor the carpet's condition?

Keep the dogs nails trimmed so they don’t catch on the carpet and pull bits out. But otherwise this should just be no different than any other wear and tear.

i wouldn't worry about it unless your dog is a digger

You can trim the dog's claws weekly (or at least mine could be trimmed that often). Just be super careful cutting the nails so short.

What is this I don't even.

if you regularly trim a little bit off at a time, the quick will recede making it easier to cut. though it is still a pain with black claws.

you can also file the points down with a nail file if your dog tolerates it.

i hardly ever do my dogs nails since we walk on the street alot and have never had an issue with carpet
