Pokémon X and Y: They Finally Ran Out of Colors. Out Globally in October!
Ha, so you all have me thinking down the road now. If you get B1 do you get W2? So if I go Y on this when the next version comes out I should go with X2?
What do you guys tend to do?
It depends I guess.
Black 2 gives you Zekrom instead of Reshiram like Black 1 did so I suppose they more had in mind that people would pick up the second version of the first one they've played to get both if they didn't trade for them before at some point.
White 2 didn't have anything that I wanted that Black 2 didn't already have so I just stuck with the black version.
Can you cancel and evolution? Is there a reason you'd want to?
You can cancel by holding B when it's evolving or have it done automatically by making the poke hold an everstone.
Pokemon learn moves faster in their younger forms and some can be pretty powerful while holding eviolite (an item that increases the defensive stats of not fully evolved pokemans) but 9 times out of 10, you'll probably just want to keep evolving.
There are also a few cases where an unevolved pokemon learns important moves that the evolved form doesn't, like Growlithe learning Flare Blitz and Shroomish learning Spore (both of which happen at 40-something, I think).
I may just never evolve my starter Chespin! He's so damn cute, why would you ever want to?
Edit: I acknowledge that he'd never be the strongest or best but he'd be damn fun to keep around. Maybe I'd have to breed/trade for one with better stats.

Starter first forms are extremely weak, even midgame Chespin might start taking some bad hits and not put much damage in.
I couldn't say though, I've never tried it. Definitely going to want to slap a eviolite on him as soon as you get it.

Most of the cases where Eviolite is nuts are pokemon that got evolutions added in later games, like Chansey.
I'm sure everyone has chimed in, but what is the general consensus on eShop vs physical?
I feel the closer it gets to release, the more I might grab it at midnight to have it before I even leave for NYCC on Saturday and the hour+ train ride.
Physical. I love cases, and not having to worry about SD cards and such.
Though, out of curiosity - can you transfer the files on an SD card to a bigger one without the 3DS complaining (as an upgrade, if you outgrow one)?
Yeah, I just did this with my 3DS -> 3DS XL. For the other way around, you can also copy the folder from the SD to the PC, then copy it back to a bigger SD card.
My card is a 32GB Micro (came out of my PSP when I upgraded to 2x32GB Micros in an adapter) in an adapter. Never run out of space.
I'm considering picking up both X and Y digitally this time, although honestly it'll feel a bit... odd... not having them as carts. I have a small stack of them on my nightstand.
The girl got a pokemon x/y blue XL. This thing is beautiful. Its all shiny and glossy on top unlike other XLS, the pokemon image is really clear and cool too. I'd highly recommend for anyone thinking of upgrading to 3DS soon.

I've never played one of these but I'm thinking about picking up X. Could use a collectathon rpg for weekend trips.
Don't worry about all of us of nerding out over IVs, EVs, natures and whatnot ocassionally. Thats only important for competitive play and the more hardcore postgame stuff.
Pretty much anything works for getting through the game. Pokemon is a satisfying experience through playing the main story (will last you a good thirty hours or so) and collecting/trading alone.
Just throwing that out there becuase I know sometimes people who are curious about Pokemon poke their head into a thread about it and get bombarded with that kind of discussion.
You know, because my chosen B2-Flyer is Golurk, and I didn't want to trade one for some reason, and I wanted one with Iron Fist, I have a little experience with only having Fly available at pokecenters. So I don't feel as compelled to leave room for a Flyer amidst my mains anymore.
But I still haven't really seen a new, obviously Flyghtcapable mon I'm enthused by. Noivern comes closest.

I was within my return policy for my 3DS Black and switched to the Blue X/Y version. Totally worth it.
On one hand, I'm disappointed how they managed to screw up such a clean, iconic design for the last form. On the other hand, absolutely everything about that thing looks totally awesome from a mechanical standpoint.
I mean, Sacred Sword with that typing? That's frigging obscene. People will tolerate 70-accuracy Focus Blasts for that kind of coverage. I wonder how exactly the ability triggers?
It's a 90 power, 100 accuracy fighting move. It was the signature move of B/W's legendary trio. It's notable here primarily because Fighting and Ghost together is 100% perfect coverage.
There's one attack that says it counts as both flying and fighting (but I don't think the exact mechanics are known yet), and an ice attack that's super-effective against water. So it's a thing, but not necessarily very widespread.

Hmm... flying fighting hybrid? So... flying type getting STAB bonus on fighting moves, or vice versa? Could be interesting.
From the SE++ thread, apparently one of the guys on the localization team is a goon and that kind of sounds like the sort of thing a goon would include.

Playing other stuff in the meantime. I've been finishing up EO4 and going through Dream Team these last days.

They rule the city night.
I got a little excited when I saw your ship.
No lobbies or centers needed for match ups, you can just check to see if someone is online on the touch screen and challenge them.
Good stuff.

Edit: Oh, hey, a weaker Shadow Force.

That is exactly what I wanted from Honedge if it had to evolve. Beautiful.
If talonflame has decent stats I'll be using it.

X also has kung fu mewtwo and a pistol shrimp pokemon. My purchasing decision is sealed.

It may be intentional. The psychic trainers often come across as being a bit out of sync with the real world.
