OTRSPOD 1 - Almost win 8 perfect...

Just got a new laptop / tablet win 8 ultrabook of perfection. Thought I'd finally get around to playing OTRSPOD 1. Turns out it is 90% perfect for touch screen. There are exactly two things I've found that you can't do. One is to hit spacebar during your special attacks. Two is to press escape to bring up the exit menu.
The escape button thing isn't that big of a deal, but the space bar thing is kind of killing me. Does any one have a work around / patch / there is some way to make it work that I'm not aware of?
