The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I've been an avid Ultima Online free shard player for the past decade trying to find the right place to play the ultimate sandbox MMO. I've recently settled into uoforever.com and am looking to create a PA guild on the server if there are other community members interested in revisiting their MMO past or trying something completely different!?
Post if you're interested and hop into the server's IRC. My IRC name is a canadian and I'm on most evenings (EST). Hope to see you back in Britannia!
I'm playing on this server as well. It honestly feels more active than IPY2 did on average. IPY2 started off strong, but quickly devolved into a ghost town macro-fest. They've really amped up the speed at which combat centric skills level, so people aren't macroing as much. You can expect to get GM Swords/Fencing/Mace/Tactics/Magery, etc. in a day or two depending on how much you play. They really wanted to eliminate the grind.
I was playing at 4am on a Monday morning and there were actually people running around playing. Best part is that it's not completely dominated by PvPers. There's actually people just wanting to be a bluebie. Unlike IPY2 I've had people actually stop and talk to me. I've had people warn me about PKs in dungeons before I enter. It's about the closest thing to the old days I've experienced yet.
Name is Ragnar Dragonfyr. My cousin is also playing under the name Garion Dragonfyr. Give us a "Hail!" if you see us around.
Wow guys. I'm seriously impressed by this server! This is the absolute closest experience to the golden days I've seen. It honestly feels more active than Atlantic did near the end of the Renassaince era.
We've actually had groups of roleplayers show up on our very remote island demanding taxes in the name of Lord British. I haven't seen that kind of roleplaying for almost 12 years now. Normally these free shards are overwhelmingly run by PvPers but there's all kinds of players here. The GM's encourage player run events and will send server wide messages to promote them and generally there's something happening every weekend at least.
If you're jonesing for some UO action, do yourself a favour and check this out while it's still bumping. I'm hoping this server stays active for a good long while, but you can never be sure with these free shards. So get it while it's hot!

I may very well have to check this out, in that case.

Sooooooooo, anyone running windows 7 having issues with screen flicker while in full screen mode? I've tried changing compatability settings(running compatability mode XP), changing the windows theme to basic, etc etc but I cannot fix the screen flicker. Makes me sad because I'd love to play but running windowed mode is way too small, and I cant play full screen with the crazy flickering. Anyone run in to this and find a solution?
So last night there was a player run Casino going. This shard has quite a number of active roleplayers it seems. Of course, the PK's were out in full force to ruin the event (as they are wont to do) but the anti's were quick to show up and keep them busy!

Yep. That white flicker happens to me too. After awhile, I stopped noticing it mostly.
I couldn't fix it personally, but my cousin fixed his by going into windowed mode. You CAN force a much higher resolution through Razor, so I'd suggest trying that... but keep in mind that this game is old and can't handle resolutions past a certain size. Alternatively, lower your display resolution to something more aligned to what was possible in the year 2000.
The flicker appears to be from some program opening and closing very fast. I can see something pop up on my task bar momentarily when it happens. I don't know if it's malware, spyware or some silly programming fault in Razor.

You think that has to do with the client software they've provided?

Disabling visual theme's and desktop composition fixed the flickering for me. It got a lot worse quite suddenly and I was forced to figure out a fix :P
Kinda reminds me of my first free shard in early 2003. It had a very small but avid community. In 3 months, I have managed to claw my way to a GM smith with a shop near Britain... oh the old days.
I believe you may be confusing meaning with early carpal tunnel syndrome, unless you were using a third-party program. But that was probably because I played a tinker and still have traumatic candelabra flashbacks.

I remember a literal line of players waiting outside a blacksmith in town for the two guys working it to make them items. That's what I mean by crafting meaning something; it's in demand. Not just the new style of crafting where you level it to max. basically just for a perk or two, or that 1 item that is either BiS or that holds you over until you get the epic raid drop item.
