Where as the real reason was probably them not having a grand plan during Dead Space 1 but then needing to make one large enough to fill out a trilogy for Dead Space 2.
Warren Ellis would likely have the answer to this question, as he was a writer on Dead Space the first.
Yes, that Warren Ellis.
He said that he was brought on early in the process for story development and that not much of what he wrote survived in the final version.
I'm sad about that too.
I mean, that's kind of a shame, but it doesn't make me as sad as you'd think, being as Dead Space the first has a pretty great story.
when shit goes to hell and the crew is freaking out about necromorphs and isaac's like "just stay away from air ducts and cut off their limbs" and sounds so irritated that he has to explain this to people
like "jesus christ idiots do i have to explain how to fight repurposed corpses to you come the fuck on you assholes"
Literally replaying tutorial videos from Dead Space 1 on how to use kinesis to fire things at them
played a couple more hours of this last night with my co-op buddy, we are in chapter 10 I think?
Still having a ton of fun with it, the ice planet has not crushed our resolve yet. We are right at the part where we can do the first of the Carver specific side-missions, so I am looking forward to that tonight.
Surprisingly not as tough as I thought it was going to be. Touching an object gently sliding towards you shouldn't result in death but then again I don't really know how stasis is supposed to work.
I didn't really have a problem with the climbing bit. Just... avoid stuff? I guess?
Yeah, I never had a problem with the climbing sections, be it in execution or play. The people here probably just suck at climbing. They should take lessons from @Blake T
Oh, I shared this on twitter but I gotta say: pulse rifle/magnesium afterburner with +clip/+damage chips, and add in the ammo box. Kills all things dead. Especially Feeders, becuase they like to swarm and get in close, and the afterburner is great for that. It was to the point where just a quick pump of the torch and the Feeder would die, no matter if it was regular or black.
I should make a blueprint and share it or something.
You can avoid the feeders, just don't run, raise your weapon, bump into them, or grab their attention in any way. They're pretty much the only enemies who's default state is "ignore everything".
That raises the question of why I wouldn't want to shoot everything in my path. :P
Also, since arriving on this stupid ice planet, I've been noticing the game is more frequently just dumping a pile of enemies on me over and over again.
It's really getting annoying.
Worse, they're still doing the jump scare tactic, except it's literally every other room now. So i don't even flinch when they jump me, because it's guaranteed to happen all the time. Bleh.
Okay so I'm at this QTE on hoth, where Isaac is trying not to fall out of this huge rig that's falling off a cliff.
I hold W, then push E, then hold W again, then fall to my death, every single time.
I have no idea what the fuck I'm supposed to do, because I'm following directions and dying every time with no other prompts appearing before Isaac drops to his death.
Oh hey, somebody posted a weird solution that actually works. Huzzah.
Thanks so much, Visceral games, for forcing me to find some bullshit user-made fix just to be allowed to progress through your god damned game that should have been patched by now.
I finally get to kill the Snow Beast, except it isn't working right, and mashing the TK button on the Torque control doesn't actually do a god damned thing. It just pans over to the beast while I mash the button and then it busts loose after five or ten seconds.
I'm completely out of ideas, and I can barley find anything that even mentions this bug, let alone a working solution.
No, I've watched it on Youtube. Once the harpoon machines are activate (Which they are) they automatically harpoon it and then you just use kinesis on the one on the left to pull them tight and it tears the beast apart.
Except doing that has zero effect on my game, and it just busts loose.
I decided to fraps it and make a video in the hopes that someone might see the problem and have a solution, and things just got worse.
Instead of just not dying when I mash kinesis, now it just walks out of the trap after it gets harpooned, and the harpoons just sort of float in mid-air while hooked together while the snow beast just waltzes up and tries to eat me while I'm trying to tap kinesis.
So i guess the game just isn't allowed to run like it's supposed to because my hardware isn't good enough.
I'm not the only one who has these issues, either. Others have complained about similar problems, which were resolved by turning the graphics down.
I understand that older hardware is going to struggle to run more modern games, but seriously? Game-breaking glitches that only come up if your hardware is struggling to run the game? Really?
Okay, so I went into the settings file in a hidden folder and manually turned the resolution down enough that it actually let me kill the son of a bitch.
I have one other pressing concern, however.
A little while before the boss, I was tinkering around with my shotgun, and I made a change that I didn't really care for, but I didn't automatically go back to my last checkpoint to undo it, because I thought I could just revert it at the next bench.
But I can't seem to do that, or at least I don't know how. Is there any way to revert a custom part back to the default one? I much preferred how it used to operate, and I don't know if I can get it back without just making a new one and giving up all the upgrades I spent on it.
Edit: Turns out that a new shotgun has all the same unlocked upgrade slots as the other one, so huzzah.
Isaac's reaction is really awesome, though. Well, not literally awesome, but hopefully you know what I mean.
Also, Codex:
Maybe it was just me, but the second I heard "Rosetta", I immediately thought of the stone. So nothing about assembling or cut into pieces or whatever got the probably intended reaction. Or at least not Ellie's.
They don't have to, but the silent protagonist can still be a good choice. It's entirely game-dependent though.
+1

Hate to necro this but I have a question.
Now that Dead Space 3 has time to digest and people have forgotten the rage/hype of this game. Is this game worth playing?
I'm going through Dead Space 1 again and loving it. Chances are that I'm going to go through Dead Space 2 again. How about Dead Space 3? Is it, at the very least, worth a sale price?

Especially the Carver mission which has some real rough split-party fights.
I'm playing through solo and some parts sort of seem like banter would be awesome in the situation.

I'm somewhat disappointed so far with the story and the characters.
I'm up to chapter 9 and just encountered the feeders.

I think you might have to TK both sides of the machine, but I'm not sure.
