Game On: Tetris DS- T-spin Tuesday Time!
ViscountalphaThe pen is mightier than the swordhttp://youtu.be/G_sBOsh-vyIRegistered Userregular
I humbly would request to resurrect this thread for the sake of all of those tetris players out there. I'd like to see some tetris push mode and 4 player with items going! Code is in the sig!
T-spins are great if you clear lines with them...they have the same attack power as Tetris' do. Which is good because it takes less lines to make them. A 1-2 punch with a Tetris and a T-spin is a pretty lethal attack.
Awesome, GG's though...Push is funner than I remember.

Its pure. None of this "let the computer randomly add pieces in places" its really a skill thing and reading your opponent. All this tetris makes me wish tetris grandmaster ace made it stateside Damn you THQ
I love this game. I won the PAX tournament last year. I just added my friend code (458 - 894 - 437 - 373) to the wiki. I'll try to join in Tuesday nights after I get a replacement battery charger for my DS.
I'm also looking forward to Planet Puzzle League, but I am concerned... Could the game be less "hard-core" than previous incarnations because of the new touch-screen controls? I would guess that touch screen controls will make it both easier to make normal chains and more difficult to do trick chains (because of the less precise timing). I fear than my hard-earned d-pad chaining skills will be of little benefit in this new game.
This just went up two days ago. I went there to play some Curveball when I see in the "Probation" window that Tetris is there. Please do what you can to keep this game there!
I've only played one game. Here are my impressions.
It plays closer to the Tetris DS style than the Tetris GB style in that you can hold a piece and there is some infinity spin. However, like the GB version, you can only see one piece ahead instead of 6, and there's no sudden drop with Up. Just the "faster-than-normal" drop with Down. Oh, I should mention the game is played with a Wiimote sideways, like an NES controller.
1 and 2 rotate the pieces clockwise and counter-clockwise, A is for holding pieces. + and - for volume control -- a nice touch. If you use "Button Toggle 1" for operating the browser menu at the bottom of the screen, you might want to change that before you start playing.
Level and Score are different from the other versions. It seems you always start at the first level and work your way up, without any chance to start at a harder/faster level. It wasn't until level 10 that I noticed any increase in speed, and I think it was at level 18 that the speed seemed to finally jump to a speed where I actually had to pay attention.
Levelling up is also different. I think you start by only needing 10 lines, but as you gain levels, you need more lines to get to the next level. Partway through, I noticed I needed 15 lines to get to the next level, and later on it became 20 lines were needed. So not only did it seem like the game was too slow for what I'm used to between the starting level and level 10, it would also take me longer than the other versions I've played to get to a faster level, meaning going from start to level 10 is shorter than going from level 10 to level 18. If you don't understand, just look at my results below. That's the only real gripe I have with the game; that the game feels too slow for too long. I shouldn't have that many lines at that low a level. Perhaps the DS version has spoiled me.
Regarding the infinity spin, you lose points based on how long you do it. Nothing major. I think the instructions said 20 points per spin while touching the blocks. It's not entirely a bad way to keep others from abusing it for high score purposes.
Finally there is music. It's a remixed version of Tetris GB Type A music. Ah, how I missed hearing it continously, instead of only on the 20th level in the DS version.
Here's my results. Think you can beat it on your first try?
Score 1126029
Lines 575
Level 22
So as you can see, this has warmed me up for some Tuesday Tetris action. Anyone going to join in with me?

Imperious, I forgot you wipe the floor with me in this game.
Even beating you those two measly times was like "Haha...er um...sorry?"
And the search and join game feature isn't yeilding anymore results so good night and good fun.
Thanks for the matches imperious. It seems I need to work on a few things there. Namely a bit more tactics :P

Hmm......you are asking WHY I am warmed up for some online Tetris action? Okay then, I'll tell you.

I need more push practice. Some of the TBK people want me to come play haloez. Ugh-- decisions. You don't have to get on if you don't want to though.
I've got no problem trying again. I've already alerted those on Platformers I'm getting on again anyways, so, we can hope for more people anyways.
Edit: Hosting for a 2-player. If I find out there are others wanting to join in, I'll host a 4-player.

My hands started to cramp there. I really think the ds phatty feels better for push mode. Damn my large hands.
Mental note : don't play tetris ds at pax for pins-- I'm gonna get schooled.
But do play Tetris DS there while you can! 10 player match-ups! :O
Anyway, I'm definitely off for the night now. Hope to see someone for Metroid tomorrow. Well, assuming I'm not too tired from work.
