Alright men. THIS is the enemy :
Oh sure, you may have had a neighbor that looked a little like him that helped your grandma on Sundays , but don't be fooled for an instant! He WILL kill you!
Now some of you will think we can fend him off with just a couple of Bananas every now and then. Others of you have been told by your mum all your life that your just big boned. That ain't gonna cut it in this man's army.
We will be discussing Not just food, but the lack of food. We will also be discussing WHY you need to be here.
Cholesterol too high? Love handles? Losing a few pounds for a wedding? It DOES matter why because out there is someone just like you that is doing the same thing and they want to know what you have tried and what doesnt work.
Now people are going to be telling you to eat a ton of fruit a day and while that sounds like a good idea, anyone whos ever dieted in the past knows that this aint going to cut it. Sooner or later your going to walk by a BBQ, smell that heavenly aroma and say "SCREW THE ORANGES"....Unless...that person is having just a touch of the good stuff every now and then, prepared right.
If your here about Cholesterol then your probably going to be asking 'can i eat this'. Help that person! I can go on the web and say 'can i eat eggs' and get 6 different answers because last years nono food is this years best diet food eva! This is because Doctors cant friggin make up there minds! We need real world experience with what you ate and if it worked to do what you wanted to do.
Post what kind of diet your on, how you cook food to get the most flavor bang for your buck, and the results!

I eat fast food and/or frozen meals at least 7 meals a week
i eat out at least twice a week, usually steak or seafood
i have had "breakfast" maybe twice in the past three years
i drink at least 2-3 non-diet sodas per day on top of a cup of coffee every weekday morning
i try to eat one or two fresh fruits per day, usually vine ripe tomatoes, straight. i eat em like apples
water when I'm thirsty
i don't eat any non-fruit/veggie snacks, dessert only once or twice per month
mostly I'd like to replace some of my frozen meals at home with actual cooking, other than that... i'm all set
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
I dont eat fast food or drink soda except on special occasions (twice per month at worst), although I do drink maybe 4 diet sodas per week on average.
I try to eat oatmeal or eggs and toast for breakfast but I would say 80% of the time I instead just grab a granola bar, which after looking at the nutritional info here, is the functional equivalent of a poptart. Beyond that I might eat a few cold bites of whatever I had the night before.
I don't really eat lunch ever, but I do eat a little at work - and I need to start bringing better stuff because all I ever bring is more of these granola bars, apples, or oranges. I need some nice veggies or something healthier - or maybe a thermos full of some nice light soup. I want to eat more veggies in general but besides carrots and celery I'm not sure what I could really pack for just snacking, and I'm not really huge on salad.
For actual meals I tend to want to make big batches of stuff. Veggie chilli or stir fry with brocolli or maybe some pulled pork or whatever I feel I can make a batch of that'll keep through the work week (this is also what I tend to eat for breakfasts). I think that the dinners I make are relatively healthy, because I don't use a whole hell of a lot of oil or anything - my main problem with dinner is portion control. Especially if I let myself make pasta, because pasta is one of the foods I can't seem to control myself around - any food that involves salt, cheese, carbohydrates is my enemy. Pizza, macaroni and cheese, etc etc. Ugh.
So I'm thinking of things I'd like to make and I have a few ideas but to be honest I need more of them. I want to start making soups. And also healthier foods in general.
I have never had couscous or quinoa. Should I try them?
as is this thread title
although I fear we will never learn how to defend against pointed sticks
I recently had a blood test and got a nasty surprise seeing that my cholesterol shot up about 45 points since mid-2010. I found this very odd since if anything My diet has dramatically improved since then but I do admit to not really watching butter intake. I dont eat alot of cheese, I hardly ever fry anything, and if i buy precooked stuff like breaded chicken breasts, i usually bake them instead. But apparently I have not avoided the really bad things and it cant hurt to lose some weight anyway.
So I've jumped on this hard while i still feel a little shocked at the results and have the willpower to do something about it. In the morning i have a 'Naked' smoothie, for lunch i have a cambells small chicken soup and whenever i feel hungry i eat a cutie orange. For dinner i have 2 chicken breasts and a pickle. this equates to about 1000 calories a day, and i walk a mile on my lunch hour.
So far its not been too hard to stick to it but Im looking for more alternatives as im sure i will be getting cravings for other things soon.
I cook most of my own food.
I eat a lot of protein and drink a lot of milk and will eat veggies if they are available or someone makes me. I also love bread more than is good for me.
Wendy's is the best fast food burger OUT OF THE MAJOR NATIONAL CHAINS DON'T BRING YOUR SHAKE SHACK OR FIVE GUYS INTO THIS
i've given it three tries at three different locations
each time an overloaded greasy soggy mess
steak and shake, wendy's, or gtfo

it's good just on its own as a side dish for fish or meat
you can put saucy dishes on top of it like you would with rice
it makes a nice warm or cold salad with some chopped vegetables
even use it to stuff peppers or in soups
I love quinoa! You can eat it like you would rice (for me, that is with everything). Sometimes I'll mix it with rice and eat it that way. Or you can eat it in salads.

I'm pretty sure it's growing in there.
What the pinapple?

5'8, 165; I cook my own meals probably 4 times a week, fastfood once a week. When I eat out its usually Pho or Sushi, which are either healthy or sneakily unhealthy depending on who you ask / what you get.
I eat liquid meals 6 days of the week. either jello or soup. Maybe rice.
on the other day I eat out, usually softer foods.
I drink 12-14 diet sodas a day.
usually eat once a day, when I get home from work.
i eat when i'm hungry, try and have a piece of fruit with every meal (i only eat meat maybe once a day, typically once every two or three days)
95% of what i drink is water or black coffee
but hoo boy do i tend to eat almost nothing all day and then have one big dinner which i know is a bad habit
I generally eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner
a snack in the morning
a light meal between breakfast and lunch
a protein shake before dinner
I try to take in 5000 calories a day but its a struggle sometimes
and expensive
We have a food thread, which mostly discusses the kinds of food people on a diet dont want to even think about cause they want it.. I did a search on the word Diet and only got a few responses from the infinite chat thread.
Not to put down your thread Usagi, until I got my test results back I was visiting it regularly, I just would like this one to go in a different direction.
Fuck. You.

i guess i should note that i mean its hard to take in good calories in that quantity on a budget
i should also note that i was overweight when i was younger
extremely overweight
i sympathize with you and know it's extremely hard to climb out of that hole
it took over a decade of work to get where i am today
definitely one of the hardest things i've ever done
maybe hit that fabled 200 pound mark someday
I'm 5'6"
Yesterday I ate a peanut butter bagel, a carls jr six dollar Memphis BBQ burger combo meal with criss cut fries, a spicy tuna sushi roll, and a plate of criss cut fries with nacho cheese and bacon bits on top aaannnnd...
And looking back on my diet it's a wonder I'm only 181 pounds.
We already have a Weight Loss and Fitness thread for this. In fact, this has been brought up in the Workout and Food threads too.
