Wireless Router troubles

TLDR: my router was working just fine before, but for the last few days, pages will suddenly stop loading until I reapply the router settings from its homepage. please help

background:

I've had this router

Netgear_WNDR3300a.jpg

(NetGear WNDR3300)

for about 5 years now. for the past 2-3 years, its been in storage because my ISP at the time gave me a combo router/modem

but I moved recently, so my router is back in service

in the last few days, I have periodically been unable to load pages while browsing the internet, and the only ways to fix it are either to unplug the router and then plug it back in, or go into the settings and just hit "Apply". the odd part is the task bar icon in windows that indicates signal strength says the network has internet access though the entire process

I know it is the router and not the modem, because when I plug the computer directly into the modem while this is happening, the internet behaves as if nothing is wrong

and i know its not my laptop, because my phone does it too at the same times

Maybe try some DD-WRT on it.

That's one of the classic signs of a dying router. I'm sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

I used to think there was a science to getting a replacement, but all five years of research has gotten me is 1) Don't get a Belkin, and 2) Every other manufacturer and model has good and bad runs.

I'm unique. Just like everyone else.

Seriously, don't. I'm also not a big fan of D-Link, but they're not as uniformly terrible as Belkin is.

You know what's funny? I have the exact same router and it's started not allowing certain devices to connect either until it gets a manual restart.

Oh well, new router time once this one finally kicks the bucket.

its cool, I thought that might be the case

in fact I've already bought a new router, I made this thread after it occurred to me on the way home that perhaps PA would know of a way to fix it
