Cloning a windows drive?

It does actually defrag, but it's stuck at 9%. I'm aware free drive space can be an issue but I have 100 gigs free on a 600 gig drive.
I've even been using a 3rd party Auslogics defrag program.
I'm on Windows 7.

EDIT: see a couple posts down. Can I just straight clone my windows drive without any problems?

I haven't tried Auslogics, I use Defraggler. Sometimes defrag operations will look like they are hanging during operation.

It does finish, but remains fragmented. I'm running defraggler now.
I've also tried running the default windows program. But it seems that's very minimalist and runs in the background?
Or maybe it won't open and I have a slew of problems going.

You might have an imminent hard drive failure on your hands.

Also you shouldn't need to defrag Windows 7 drives.

Defraggler is saying 10 hours. So perhaps you're right.
    Damn it.
Is it possible to simply clone a drive without windows throwing a fit over keys or something? Or will I have to go through the trouble of a reinstall?

With Win7 I'm not sure, I've experienced different results on XP. Using clonezilla I had one computer have no problem at all, it came right up, on another computer almost the exact same it made me reinstall completely. Biggest issue may be if the clone doesn't do the MBR correctly and you have boot issues, I believe there should be a way to rebuild the boot record or repair with the Win7 DVD.

Magic jelly bean key finder also will get you your windows key if you need it for the re-auth.

Another vote for Clonezilla. Use it here to image mucho machineage, and it's always been a trooper (and easy to use).

Acronis Backup and Recovery version 10 is great. Boot with the CD, make image, swap HD, re-apply image with same boot CD and presto! Done.
