Swelling around ankles, more swollen leg veins

So I've usually been pretty active and don't really have health problems but I've recently gotten back into running, around like 15 miles a week for past few weeks. I've been noticing pretty prominent calf veins that weren't there before on a leg I injured a while ago.
And today, after sitting on comp all day I went to gym and when I took off my high socks, there's this noticeable swelling along the sock line around the ankle. I mean, without the socks I wouldn't notice, but there's a clear difference and the good leg has no swelling really.

I guess I'll go in to doc anyway but I'm wondering if anyone's had anything similar happen and what the outcome was. It seems like docs can only help in really severe situations sometimes, some I'm wondering if this is just cuz I'm getting back into being active. At rest I don't see any veins in calf, but I do think they've been getting bigger/ more noticeable when I run since a few weeks ago. Is this the beginning of varicose veins in my 20's?

Possibly relevant info:
hurt knee bad year go, gets worse with inactivity and leg muscles get weak.
I had spent 3-4 weeks doing nothing, virtually bedridden after hernia repair.
I'm kind of a hypochondriac.

What you describe isn't necessarily varicose veins. It could be a lot of things from your injury or something else, and since you're kind of a hypochondriac it might not be best to list all the things I can think of off hand because it'd be one of those "nothing to cancer" kind of lists that bring the hypochondriac out of in the best of us and doesn't really give you any useful information.

Both of my parents had periodic problems with this for much of their lives, though, so I'll give you the same advice the doctors gave us: See your doctor, they will be able to determine which thing it is or refer you to a specialist who can.

Hevach nails it on the head.

Biggest thing to look out for is congestive heart failure. You mention a hurt knee. Your body will have swelling as it repairs broken and damaged tissue. Sprains and rips and broken bones will cause swelling, even in a "fixed" state. Your body will also have minor swelling if you're getting back into exercise after a bad injury, as well.

    A doctor, go see one.

So in the past week, I started developing spider veins in my feet - a ton of tiny red blood vessels appearing out of no where. First they started on my left foot then they started on the my right. The right foot had no veins before yesterday and now there's a bunch of broken blood vessels. What the heck is going on? Does this just happen to athletic 25 year olds randomly? Can it go away? I'm pretty worried and depressed about this.
