Mercenaries for PS2....is it worthwhile to check this game out? I never really followed it and thought it was Xbox exclusive, and i realize its like 2-3 years old, but does it hold up? Im considering picking it up, used or not.
It's really fun and enjoyable. The framerate is kinda eh but it still looks really good and plays amazing.
I didn't notice any real framerate problems when I played it on PS2 for first time in my life. Is Xbox version so different?
It's just much smoother on the xbox and looks a little cleaner, but that's it. They're virtually the same. The framerate on the Ps2 version is very much playable in intense firefights.
Definatly worth playing. Think GTA, but add the fact you are SUPPOSED to blow shit up. Money is king, you can order carpet bombs, and hijack helicopters. Badasss.
I love the game, though it's worth noting that on the PS2 version if you fire the shotgun, you won't hear any sound effect from it. Seems the file was left off the disc or something. Still doesn't keep the game from being one of my favorites. Peter Stormare is, as always, the definition of awesome.

When it came out, we used to tell customers it was pretty much Grand Theft Auto in North Korea.
The PS2 version doesn't look as nice, but it still plays fine.
So it is choppy for Ps2? I understand if its not going at like 60/fps but as long as its at a decent framerate, since apparently the game is all about blowing everything up. The only game that I enjoyed that had bad framerate was Jet Force Gemini.
I haven't played it in a while, but I don't remember it being that bad at all. I never played the Xbox version, so I didn't have anything to compare to the PS2 version. Anyway, I made it a little over halfway through the game and enjoyed just about every moment. I really do need to get back into it again.
Yeah, same here - I played the entire game through at least twice (first with Nilsson, then with Mui), and never really had any issues with the game. I remember there being the occasional slowdown if you called in a carpet bomb or something similiar that filled the screen with explosions, but in my mind it was FAR from unplayable by any stretch. But then again, I haven't seen or played it on the Xbox, so I've got nothing to compare it to.
With how cheap I've seen this game, there's no excuse to pick it up in my mind. I haven't seen too many people disappointed with it.
I'd have to go with the people who have never played the Xbox version so have nothing to compare the PS2 version with. I've been playing through the PS2 version, sure it does get a bit choppy but not too noticeable I've found... Perhaps I'd have a different opinion if I tried the Xbox version though.
Mercenaries is one of my favorite games. I really can't wait for the second one to come out. The PS2 version actually looks fine. I've had both versions, Xbox and PS2, and while the graphics aren't as good and there are some framerate issues, it still plays great. It's definitely worth getting for whatever system you have.

I think explicit mention must be made of the fact this game has the voices of both Peter "Ve vant ze money, Lebowski!" Stormare and Carl "Baby, You Got a Stew Goin'!" Weathers.
The game is excellent, but the weirdest thing killed the game for me. I played it after playing GTA:SA, and when I accidently drove into a river, and I couldn't swim, it really annoyed me.
Very similar, but larger, more absurd, buggier, and in latin america instead of North Korea
I loved it but it is a bit repetitive
I rented Just Cause, and found it awesome. Untill I got to a level involving a train. I start the briefing, fly in this helicopter to the mission point, it asks me to save. I save, quit, reload later... notihng happens. I check the memory card, and the save isn't corrupted. It just won't actually LOAD. So I didn't bother renting it again ,or buying it. But beyond that, it was awesome fun.

If it was backwards compatible on the 360, I would sell my PS2 version and buy the XBox one.
I only finished 3 missions on the PS2 and despite having fun just couldn't take it anymore because once you get into firefights it's just a mess.
Is it something along those lines?
