I'm getting a PS3 this friday, but im also an avid tennis fan and want to get VT3, however i'm not sure which console version i should go for, as my heart wants to pick up VT3 for PS3 as it's my 'new console' but i heard the PS3 version doesn't have online capabilities.
However i also know that the 360 version does but is made by a completely different team, Sumo Digital, whereas the PS3 version is made by SEGA's in-house AM2 department, so it's practically guaranteed to be arcade perfect on PS3, something which i'm hugely anal about.
So anyone out there played both versions, and can give me the skinny?
It's arcade perfect for 360. I have it and it's awesome. XBox Live and achievements for the win. Can't play the computer or have guests over to play all the time on PS3. Get the 360 version.
Given the choice of a game on one of 2 hypothetical systems, which were exactly the same in every other respect, except on one console it has no rumble, and on the other it does, and I own both systems, I would get it for the console that has rumble.

Hmm... I guess but i just don't like fanboyism.
I loved rumble on the original Gran Turismo taking those corners hard and feeling your hands shake was really hawt it felt like driving a massive horsepower machine at the edge of its limits.
What can someone running around on a court with their hands shaking feel like?

Well, in table tennis on the 360, they used rumble to let you know where on the table the ball would go after you hit it, without letting your opponent see what you were doing (the more it rumbled, the closer to the edge you were). In tennis, simply doing a quick hard shake when the ball connects with your racket would be nice.

Let's play Mario Kart or something...
Man, this isn't going to contribute anything to the discussion, but I just didn't get the demo on 360. How do you control how fast you strike the ball? How do you control what direction it goes? When would you ever lob? Lobbing only gets me spiked so hard.
I like tennis in real life, but virtua tennis fucks me in the ass.
There's a fractional loss of detail in the 360 version visually, noticable only really on the players clothing (look at screenshots and check the folds and ripples in the cloth). Lindbergh arcade hardware uses the same family NVidia graphics chipset that ended up in the PS3 making direct ports a snip.
360 has online, achievements, rumble as mentioned.
I couldn't give a shit about online or achievments so I'm going with PS3 for absolute arcade perfect replication and better d-pad what with the controls being digital and all (I can use my arcade stick).
Edit: comparative screenshots courtesy of retroscart.com checkout the character models. It's minor, but if that's more important than online and all the other benefits of the 360 version then there you go.

No, it's really not. There's still going to be all sorts of issues that come up in ports where you're moving from one platform to a completely different platform.
The fact of the matter is that VT3 was made for Lindbergh, which is a P4 with an nVidia graphics card running Linux. It wasn't made for either the PS3 or the 360. So I'd say wait for reviews.

The 360 demo played very nicely. Since I don't have a PS3 yet I'll be going to the 360 route, but even if I did I think Live would be a big enough factor that I'd make the same choice.

Actually I'm pretty sure the graphical differences between the two versions is because AM3 (the actual VT dev team) ported the PS3 version, while Sumo Digital ported the 360 version.
I'd blame that on someone using a blurry camera for the 360 version. Look how shitty it looks compared to the ps3 shot, speaking in terms of brightness and contrast.
Nah, the courts look identical, as does the on screen text. There's definitely something about the character models.
It's impossible to tell from that screenshot, as the contrast & brightness is turned way to low on the X360 image. Just try opening the image in Photoshop and increase the gamma and/or contrast and you'll see some of the missing details. I won't argue that it's possible that there is a difference in the model details as I haven't played the game on either platform, but those two image is useless for a comparison.
This level of argument about the screenshots implys no real significant difference in graphics of any kind.
I would say controller comes down to it. Which would you rather play the game with? Then go with that (I hate the sony pad - but if it's digital controls, and the d-pad on the 360 is anything like that on the original xbox, then maybe it's better).

Oh no, the d-pad on the 360 is terrible. Just terrible. Everything else about the controller is perfect, but the d-pad is so bad.

Oh noes talking about a feature one console has and another one doesn't is fanboyism!
How the heck do you control this game in the demo? Wherever you try and hit the ball it just flies back to the AI player straight and level while they can thrash it around the court at any angle they like? I think you move the left stick after pressing the shot button, but it seems to have almost no effect at all.

Shit, I meant PS2 pad would be better. As it's dpad - whilst shit, is better than the shitty xbox 1's and apparently teh 360 too.
Sigh. Poor Dpads (Hugs classic controller, the last bastion of a home console dpad.)

Move the stick before/during hitting the shot button.

I love it so much
And Sumo Digital made very faithful arcade ports of Outrun 2 and Outrun 2 SP in Outrun 2006, which came out last year. I wouldnt be worried.
I do not understand why it is immature. I thought the ps3 lacks rumble, perhaps it really adds to the gameplay?
not really.
