365 Days of [Netflix]

So, Netflix

Netflix is pretty great, right?

Look at all the great shows you can watch on it!

And look at these shows you'll be able to watch on it soon!

It even has a new original series that people seem to love, and an upcoming fourth season to a show everyone with good taste loves!

Everyone loves Netflix! Even Bronies love Netflix!

With all these great shows - and the shows are plentiful enough that it's worth subscribing just for them alone - it's easy to forget sometimes that Netflix also has a ton of movies on it as well. Selection of new movies became pretty sparse over the last couple of years, but there's still a lot of good stuff on there, enough so that my favorite multiplatform game for PS3 and Xbox is "Netflix: Queue Adventures," a single-player turn-based strategy game in which I scroll over movies I want to see, add them to my queue, and never watch them.

Until now

So I've been kinda wanting to do this for a while, and for motivation I'm gonna go ahead and put myself out there publicly. I want to watch one new movie per day on Netflix, for 365 days.

Now, that pesky thing called life, uneventful as mine usually is, does sometimes get in the way. Inevitably there will be days missed, and as such I will have to double up on later days to catch up. But I feel confident that by February 22, 2014, I will be sitting here with at least 365 newly-watched films under my belt.

So yeah, I also thought we could maybe use a Netflix thread as well. As nice as the service is, they do a piss-poor job of letting you know what actually goes up, when it goes up, and when it comes down.

Of the things I listed above for "coming soon," Cartoon Network shows are coming at the end of March and Chuck is coming sometime this summer

So here goes on Movie #1:

    Psh

Ain't got time for that shit

(Actually it is kind of a pain in the ass)

Someone with Internet smarts educate me before I go watch a movie: how do you tell if an image is cached beforehand?

House of Cards is muy good.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

You know what's a fun Netflix double-feature? Hot Rod and Goon.

They're nothing alike, but they both warm different parts of my heart

    I really liked Good Dick

The humorous bits they tried to put in regarding his friends at the video store fell pretty flat, but everything dealing with the main relationship in the film was touching, unnerving and genuinely heartbreaking

I haven't seen Brick but it's in my queue, and I'll definitely go ahead and add Hot Rod and Goon

This would be much better for you if you had Hulu Plus as well. 365 is a lot of movies and while Netflix's selection is great, it'd be nice to be able to knock off 100+ of those movies via the Criterion Collection

  • UnbreakableVowUnbreakableVow Registered User regular
I know they don't do it during the Criterion movies

But I'd feel kinda shitty about paying money for a service that still inundates its subscribers with commercials

You should watch it too. And I don't even like cars!

Warning: GOOD DICK sucks. Seriously. It has terrible pacing, ludicrous characters and a fat fucking cop-out ending. You will demand your money back, even though you technically didn't pay anything for it.

Watch BERNIE instead. BERNIE is great.

hey man, your convictions are your convictions

But Hulu Plus is worth the subscription price if only just for access to Criterion

@UnbreakableVow, this is a film you should check out.

    399px-Behind_the_mask_ver2.jpg
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is a 2006 American mockumentary horror film and black comedy directed by Scott Glosserman. It stars Nathan Baesel, Angela Goethals and Robert Englund. Although largely filmed in Oregon, the film takes place in a small town in Maryland, and follows a journalist and her film crew that is documenting an aspiring serial killer who models himself according to slasher film conventions.

The film is an homage to the slasher film genre, and features cameos from several veteran horror actors, including Robert Englund, Zelda Rubinstein, and Kane Hodder. The film premiered at the 2006 London FrightFest Film Festival and was shown at several other festivals and met with critical acclaim. It received a limited release in the United States on March 16, 2007.

Netflix is also where you go to get caught up on the first 4 seasons of Breaking Bad.

Which you should totally do if you haven't seen it yet.

I really wish that FX was better about getting shows up on Netflix, because I really want to get semi-current on Justified.

Also, last I checked, all of Monty Python and Kids In The Hall are on Instant
