Hi all,

I've got your tournament list here for your perusal!

Ask questions if you've got them!

Signups are day-of only. Please be present if you'd like to signup. Signup lists will be open at the start of each day.

Dates and times will be on the main schedule when it becomes available.

For Brawl and the fighters, I'd recommend you bring personal controllers*. We'll have some on hand, enough for everyone, but they're....well used.
*Standard controllers: Arcade/fight sticks, GameCube controllers, etc. If you've got something custom or uncommon, please ask first.

Oh wow, this looks like a lot more than usual!

I'm really tempted to do DBZ Budokai and Brawl... but the last time I tried Brawl it ended (well, technically started) as a fucking nightmare.

Ugh, Pac Man and Geometry Wars???? With Virtual On too?? I want to do them all, but probably need to focus on 1 or 2.

I've gotta brush up on my smash bros. Last time, I was defeated in 3 minutes! I do like how they're breaking up the tournament. The year before last, there was a problem with the bracket system and there was a big delay. Last year was much smoother. Looking forward to it!

Ooh Tetris Attack! I hope I can get to the signups early enough this year.

Should we bring our own cube controller if we want to use it for brawl?

  • BrainsBrains Console Tournament Manager Registered User regular
Yup, forgot to mention that. For Brawl and the fighters, I'd recommend you bring your own controller.

    Beautiful Katamari you say?! Sweet!
Can we use custom (painted) controllers with no mods (basically oem)?
I would assume so, but no harm in asking.

Yup, that's just fine. Unless it's magic paint...then no.

;_; So many games I want to enter... Might just stick to P4A, Brawl and Trials...

  • vttymvttym Ardent Gamer Northern NJRegistered User regular
Wow.. Virtual On... I used to rock the hell out of that game in the arcade. Emphasis on "used to" .. might check it out all the same.

Hi all, I'm hoping that the SSBB Tourney is Saturday(the only day I'm attending), and just wondering how do the matches work? I saw that it was 1vs1 on the OP, but is it a stock match, timed match, what? Also, I doubt it's a problem considering that the only tourney I'm interested in is Brawl and that's Rated E, but would being only 16 prevent me from being able to enter?

  • UnnDunnUnnDunn New York, NYRegistered User regular
I hope the Lumines Live tournament isn't 1-round single-elimination like it was last year. At least make it best of 3 for the first 4 tourney rounds and best of 5 for the last two tourney rounds.

Each match could last as little as 10-15 seconds. It's no fun playing a tournament only to be eliminated in the first 15 seconds.

While it hasn't been posted yet, I can tell you that the Brawl tournament is on Friday. The Brawl tourney will be stock. There are no age limits on any of these tourneys...they're for everyone!

Hey, just wondering, are any characters banned in the fighters, specifically for Soul Calibur V? Just so I know who to practice. Don't wanna turn up ready to kick ass with Devil Jin only to find he's been banned.

  • sassfactor4sassfactor4 Brooklyn, NYRegistered User regular
I'm really pumped about NBA Jam, despite not being particularly practiced or historically good at it.

  • zgamer200zgamer200 Registered User regular
Well with no SSBB Tourney for me, I'm not planning on doing any tourneys, but will the SSBB Tourney be streamed at all? I'd be interested in at least watching it.

  • vicechanvicechan Registered User regular
Rules for Halo 4? MLG settings?

And prizes? Or just bragging rights?

  • zerzhulzerzhul Registered User, Moderator mod
Unless a sponsor is giving out specific prizes, the default prize for PAX tournaments is a medal with the event inscribed on the reverse.

  • vicechanvicechan Registered User regular
    Sweet! Good to know, thanks!

Only some of the things in Main Theater and Naga Theatre will be streamed last I heard, so none of the tournaments other than Omegathon.

Question about the Brawl Tourneys! In order to guarantee a spot in a bracket would you recommend signing up at 8:00 sharp or will 10:00 be safe?

Since the convention itself does not open until 10am, you probably won't be able to sign up until 10am. What that means for the time you should arrive at the BCEC, I do not know.

  • wrccitroenwrccitroen New EnglandRegistered User regular
Who's providing the systems & games for the brawl tourney? I mean 32 wii's & brawl discs per block is no small number...

  • zerzhulzerzhul Registered User, Moderator mod
There will be plenty of machines :) The console tourney/freeplay sections are filled to the brim with consoles.

  • DarkshowersDarkshowers Registered User regular
What happened to Super Street Fighter 2 HDRemix and why is it not on the list this year? We've always had a SF2 tourny with a good turnout of 32 players so I don't why it was left out this year. Aside from Goldeneye, I would have also liked to see another old school FPS game like tournaments for Doom and Perfect Dark last year. Maybe a game like Duke Nukem 3D for the 360.

@Darkshowers I don't remember off-hand what games are on the list, but there are some old school tourneys in the classic console area, and there's a thread for them somewhere around here.

  • PhobiaXxXPhobiaXxX Registered User new member
Are all the tournament going to be in one room because I want to sign up for multiple games. I don't wanna get DQ'ed.

  • DarkshowersDarkshowers Registered User regular
@zerzhul so you are saying there are old school classic console tournaments every year that do not show up on the official PAX schedule? I had no idea. What games have they played in the past?

I'm not sure if they've done them in the past. I'm saying that there is a thread for this particular pax east for old school classic console tournaments.

Your best bet is to show up around 10. Last year there was a short line at 10, because the BCEC doors seem to be open before 10.

The tourneys are in two rooms. I'd ask that you don't sign up for overlapping tourneys, since it's historically been very difficult to keep track of the people that are in both. As a general rule, tourneys that start within an hour of each other are overlapping.

Yes, there have been unpublished tournaments each year in CCFP. It's worth checking out if you haven't before! I think if you follow @pax_tourney you'll get updates for all of the tournaments. We will also try to post to that feed with news on tourneys that are full, or still have spots.

Yes, the doors to the building open at 8am. You'll be able to go to any of the theatres, tournament rooms (Console or PC), or the queue room to line up and wait for 10am. At 10, you can enter the rooms you've been waiting for. In the case of Console Tournament, you'll be able to sign up for that day's console tournaments starting at 10.

Hi, I hate to be an annoyance, but my question was never answered.. Are there any banned characters in any of the fighters?

I would like to understand why the Halo 4 tournament will be a FFA. I go to PAX and the thing I love the most is the 4 v 4 tournament that I get to play in with my friends. We have practice already for about a month or 2 just for this opportunity. We rarely get to see each other as we all live in different part of the country and going to PAX East is where we meet and play together. I really hope you will reconsider making it back 4 v 4 like how all of the previous Halo Tournaments at PAX were.

Yeah I was excited to play this tournament that has historically been a "sell-out" and a huge blast. Big disappointment to see FFA, and I won't be participating in that. Hopefully someone will realize how much better it would be for a team match.

There are no plans for banned chars in any of the fighters.

Is there any chance that the Goldeneye Tourney is License to Kill? Only way to play IMO. Man, it has been way too long since I've busted the N64 out. Looking forward to this.

I have two questions about Puzzle Bobble at PAX East 2013.

    (1) Is the tournament going to be two out of three games to a match, two out of three matches to an elimination, and two hours of time allotted for the tournament? Last year we hand single matches, winner takes all, and we got booted from the room after only an hour.
    (2) (slightly off topic) If some Puzzle Bobble players wanted to put together a meet-up to play more later that weekend, what kind of support could we get? Puzzle Bobble XBLA loaded on a console or two in the free play area (not the console tournament enforcers' responsibility)? A flyer in the tournament room where people could sign up and commit to being in a certain place at a certain time (doable?)?

@brains so my buddy wants to sign up for multiple tourneys on Friday particularly SSBB, SC5, LL, GE...now seeing you were talking about overlapping would it be possible for him to sign up for Lumines Live (4-6), Soul Caliber 5 (6-8) & the second time slot of Brawl (9-11) or is this a no no? If a no no what about him just signing up for Soul Caliber & the second slot for brawl? Thanks!!
