Message indicator not going away after being spammed

I got an e-mail indicator the other day that I'd gotten a private message from a spammer who'd apparently sent out a mass private message, but before I could actually check the message on the site, the user had apparently been deleted. But now I have the red "new message" icon stuck up there. Is there any way to get rid of this? I think it's a bug
