So yeah, this thread is about videogame boxart. Talk about your favorites or your most hated.
This is one of my favorites. It's kind of cool with Sam hanging above a guy about to take him out, with the rain in the backround and stuff. I also like boxart with lots of actions going on in it, like explosions or firefights.
I've got access to a few asset sites - I was thinking of posting upcoming boxart as we get them in. I had the new Pirates of the Caribbean come across my desk this morning along with Take2's new coverart for this month. Interesting idea? No?
I really liked hand drawn covers from the 80's. These days everything seems to be just either dully rendered crap, or otherwise uninspired. But the truth is that cover isn't so important anymore. When we were young, some of us bought crap only based on cover.
I think minimalist designs are more striking and dignified, and just plain cooler looking. It doesn't have to be, obviously, if it fits the theme. But it helps.
Is that American or Japanese version, becuase here in Euroland the box is yellow. (If I had a camera I'd go to the store to take a picture to prove it.)
I really like the Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga boxart. The colors are nice and pastely and the lines are very smooth. This was a while ago, but I think the boxart was a large part in getting me to buy the game.
Also, the Japanese FF boxes are so much prettier than American ones. I have the Japanese FF3 art in my game case though because I printed it off of the cover project.
The Chaos Theory box is eleventy billion times funnier if you turn it upside down. Same has this look of utter confusion on his face as he looks up to see this oblivious upside-down soldier walk past.
Whenever I'm in a store and see the CT box, I always turn it around.

Seriously though.... I need to go dig archives before I can post anything interesting.
P.S. This is meant as a joke, not as attack againt anyone or attempt to derail this thread.

Take your pick.
I like Kyle Reese cover, and Snake's Revenge's cover is pretty nifty too.
I like how the Super Mario 64 boxart is a preview to Super Mario Galaxy. In hindsight, of course.
I WILL NOT BE DOING 3DS FOR NWC THREAD. SOMEONE ELSE WILL HAVE TO TAKE OVER.

http://www.mobygames.com/game/nes/castlevania/cover-art/gameCoverId,41554/ How cool is this? It was so goddamn cool when I was five years old.

Do so. Talk about why you like the boxart guys. Don't just post it.
Wasn't that box art by that Lupin guy? Anyways, it is fun how much japanese box arts differ from their western counterparts. Some good examples:

My old standby.

Wasn't "Riot Act" japanese name, and "Crackdown" asian name?
Front
Back
Gears of War
Viva Pinata
afaik, it was specifically "Riot Act" in japan because of the sega game titled "Crack Down".

The PAL version of resident evil 4 has the best boxart.
AniList
Classic.
-European Timesplitters 2 boxart.
-Comparison of JP and US Kirby's Air Ride boxart.
Not just Air Ride, they do it with all new Kirby releases now (I'm sure about Power Paintbrush, and I think Squeak Squad as well...)
Also, the Japanese FF boxes are so much prettier than American ones. I have the Japanese FF3 art in my game case though because I printed it off of the cover project.
What the fuck?
Whenever I'm in a store and see the CT box, I always turn it around.
