Exciting question!!: How strict are airports on the liquid limit?

I'm leaving for the airport in 3 hours, and I want to bring this Burt's Bees set of cremes and lotions and things for my girlfriend as a present. The set says it's "3.17 fluid ounces + 2.47 fluid ounces." All the lotions and things are in one contained bag.

I'm pretty sure the rules for liquids on an airplane is 3 fluid ounces, or something. Do they check this thoroughly? Does my kit thing meet the rules? Should I care, or worry? Should I just not bring it?

Freaking airports.

Oh, and I'm not checking anything. I'm either carrying this on or not bringing it at all.

So I was gonna make some joke about them either squeezing the urine out of you or something along those lines... But Im too lazy to think up a witty way to put it...

Anyway, I don't think they'll be too worried about it. I mean if thats the ONLY "iffy" thing, then they'll let it go, but I mean, naturally if you walk in there with a 6" dagger and explosives, they'll be a little less leniant towards you.

I accidently got through with a full bottle of hand lotion in my pocket once that was more than 3 ounces.

I once saw a guy come back from a hunting trip, reach into his pocket, and pull out a handful of shotgun reloads that had gone right through airport security. That was a little disconcerting.

If they're picky, you're going to have it confiscated and you'll never see it again

If you aren't so picky about taking it on with you, you can definitely take it and have a 90% chance of seeing it again

Yeah, as long as it's in a plastic bag they're not going to be nitpicky. It also depends on what major airport you're going through

I'm an art major and I've gotten through airport security several times with boxcutter/xacto knives, just because they're in my bags for art projects and I forget to take them out.

I definately now get stopped every time because for a sculpture project I needed wire cutters, so I totally had wire cutters, needlenose pliars, and two exacto knives in my bag....needless to say that was a really awkward moment.

El Al let me bring a switch-blade on board. They told me just don't take it out of my bag. But then again, they have Mossad agents to regulate any would-be hijackers, and don't need to hide behind ridiculous rules and regulations to pretend that they have real security.

I thought that was only for carry on. Can you not keep liquid in a checked bag?

I haven't flown in a year or two.
