Never running from a real fight.
She was the one named Sailor Moon.
This is a thread for that other, other series from the early 90s, for those of us who wanted something that didn't involve unchartable power levels and liked our shows with a bit more drama.
A dense klutz of a schoolgirl named Usagi Tsukino, AKA Serena, gets informed by a talking cat that she's actually the princess of the long-dead Moon Kingdom, and it's her destiny to protect earth from all kinds of evil(initially the Negaverse/Dark Kingdom, with a new entity every season), by transforming into Sailor Moon(one of the nine Senshi, or Soldiers(aka Scouts), one for each planet).
Basically the yin to Power Ranger's yang, or something like that.
As the show goes on, her friends eventually become Sailors as well. There's five in the first season, with a sixth arriving in the second, and four more arriving over the course of the next two.
There's also the obligatory Tuxedo Mask, who more or less always saves Sailor Moon before she turns the respective monster to ash.
This was pretty much all I religiously watched, since I never got into DBZ, and this was the show that more or less got me obsessed with anime.
It aired at 6:00 AM on UPN, next to Ronin Warriors.
Sailor Moon was based on a manga by Naoko Takeuchi, which I've never read as much of as I should, because the localization is terrifying(Usagi(aka Serena) referred to as
Bunny).
It had nice art, but I've never really gotten into it. A lot of fans consider it the best source material since it has a lot more going on, though villains also get killed off much faster, so I've stayed with the anime.
The first two seasons were localized by DiC, and to their credit, the voice acting wasn't too bad. The show underwent a ton of changes, like name changes(Usagi = Serena, Makoto = Lita, etc.), death removals(the final episode of the series had all the Scouts/Senshi's deaths cut out completely), and even gender switches(Zoicite was a female in the US version, a male in the original).
After that, Sailor Moon dropped out of sight for a while, until the worst thing that could ever happen to the next two seasons, did. Cloverway(CWi) dubbed it, and CTN aired it. Most of the original US cast were gone, and they butched S and Super S beyond belief. So if you want those two, avoid the dubs like the plague.
The final season, Sailor Stars, has never been officially released in America, and never will. Lots of death(Tuxedo Mask dies in the
very first episode), and his replacements, cross-gendered aliens called the Starlights, guaranteed Stars had no chance of getting aired in the US.
It's one of the best seasons period, so that's probably for the best. A dubbing would've chopped it to pieces.
(There were also three movies, all of which are really good.)
Last, and definitely least, there's the live action series, which was released in Japan around two years ago.
Only the most obsessed Sailor Moon fans could ever appreciate it, since they reworked everything from the ground up. But it's definitely different.

You think you're so funny
If I had the money, I would gladly spend it to get every dubbed episode. They have a very gay, very soft spot in my heart.
Katchem can be cool
Mine too.
The fact that it starred a bunch of girls in skirts did not bother my 10 year old mind... In fact it may have encouraged me liking it....
....anways.
Sailor Pluto is the best.
Or a Mighty Max thread
I remember a picture of all 5 characters in some lesbian action.
Ahhh...to be young again.
But Whippy we are almost at 100 pages in pokethread 3.0
