So, I am pretty sure I have an external hemmeroid, stemming from a poor diet and frequent constipation over the last month, and it is occasionally painful. I'm working on getting into a doctor for official diagnosis within the next week, but until then I was wondering what info H & A had to offer concerning this condition. Any info, from suggested over the counter treatments to what to expect for duration, is appreciated.

You might want to buy some gloves.
Get these.

Kinda use them as a compress for a few minutes really really helps. Also preparation h helps a ton too
EDIT: I thought suppositories were for internal ones only, but hey if you wanna stick things up your butt, have fun.. Pooping with one is hard enough let alone trying to shove a horse pill up there
Relatedly, apparently basically everyone ought to be using the toilet with their legs propped up a bit. I'd have to look it up again, but doing it with your legs in that position makes it easier to go. So, try to prop up your legs with something to make it easier on yourself. Maybe actually grab one of those footstools to use in there or something. Those things are usually marketed toward the elderly, but there's no reason they wouldn't help somebody else. I've been meaning to grab one myself actually.
