How much are the pins worth and how much does it cost to buy them from PAX?

    Each of the 4-packs was $30. The only person I saw selling individuals was Scott, and the one my wife bought was $10.

    Are people only supposed to trade pins 1:1 or are some worth more than others? I'm watching a pin auction on eBay and it's kinda ridiculous.

    Any ebay auction for the pins right now is going to be ridiculous. As will any auctions firing up within a month or so of the next PAX.
    If you're looking to trade buttons post-PAX, you might want to open a thread in the PAX forums for such a thing, though I'd be really surprised if there wasn't one already there. (Note: If there isn't one already there, you may want to PM the forum mod and make sure it's kosher before you open it, better safe then sorry).

    As for value, it's going to be based on rarity and desirability. I don't think I need to write up a lecture about supply and demand here. Suffice to say those of us who didn't go to PAX vastly outnumber those who did, and it's pretty likely that those who want the pins are also a considerable majority compared to those who are willing to sell them.

    Looking at the "Official Rules" I don't see anything about a 1:1 ratio. I don't think it'd be feasible to enforce such a rule anyway.

    You are required to trade SOMETHING with other people, even Gabe & Tycho. A good example is Tycho wanted one of my PAX East pins for his exclusive pin, which is my own fault for being lazy with adding core set pins to my lanyard, but you see where the demand can increase.

    It's also important to remember that this is the first PAX for pin trading, and I wouldn't be surprised if pins like the G&T pins are the same at each con at least for the year. So the number of CTS Gabe and Zombie Tycho pins will increase dramatically once PAX Prime ends. If you are going to shell out money, I would wait and see what happens with the pins at future PAXes.

    This is a very new thing, and you are liable to get burned if you try throwing money into it before things get stable.
