Another Ergonomics Question

Hey all,
I posted earlier about my RSI and coming up with a good home solution for when I want to use the computer at home. I got a lot of great advice, and I'm working on implementing it. I bought myself a good adjustable keyboard tray/mouse tray to be mounted under a desk; I've been visiting office furniture stores and looking into getting a quality task chair for home use. I've already implemented these things at work - this is just for home. I'm actually debating buying a Steelcase Leap. I may look into trying a new demo the chair for 14 days option they have first.
I'm still trying to work out a good solution for buying my desk. What I'm after is a proper height (maybe even adjustable) plain desk that I can mount my keyboard tray to. I was considering getting an Ikea galant desk but I think it has metal parts around its entire underside that could cause problems when mounting my adjustable tray. So, now I'm debating looking into getting basically a plain wood table at the right height. I can't see a downside to this as I don't need any drawer space and need more space underneath the desk for my tray. Do any ergonomics gurus have any advice on whether this is a bad idea or no? Since I'm putting so much into my task chair and have bought a true adjustable keyboard tray/mouse tray, I'm trying to keep the desk under a budget of around one to two hundred dollars. I know that often times people shop around on craigslist and such for good deals, but I'm uncomfortable using that (my loss I know).
Thanks!

A great solution for a cheap desk is to get a plain wooden door at a hardware store and mount it on top of whatever best fits your need and budget. It even comes with a pre-drilled large hole for your cables! Today is Easter, so you might even snag one on sale or find a coupon.

I have a galant, and the metal parts don't extend THAT far. I have about 8 inches of depth to play with from metal to the edge of the desk. Get the T legs, as they're more easily adjustable. Also note that since the entire DESK is adjustable, you can adjust the height to proper keyboard height without needing a tray. To adjust your monitor, either use the stands you have, or buy some reams of paper for additional height. I rock an Aeron, but most ergo chairs are rad and incredibly durable.
I work for an insurance company that ergos everyone, and my solution is keyboard on top of the desk with an adjustable stand for the monitors. Galant is a great solution for a simple desk, and it's easily expandable.

There is a gazillion used desks for sale on craigslist.com in the less than $50 range. There are desk above $50 too, of course :)

Thanks all! I think I'm going to go with a combination of ideas. I'm looking at building my own like supabeast suggests. I was going to use a solid beech wood countertop and legs from Ikea. They have a solid beech wood table top you can purchase for about 40 dollars less and it comes with the leg holes predrilled. I'm thinking I'll grab this and some of their adjustable height table legs. Win win!
