is there a difference between a se++ mod and a non se++ mod
A mod only polices their assigned forum(s) unless it's something that would be better dealt with immediately (spam, someone having a breakdown and posting fetish porn in every thread, etc.).
So if someone calls you a name in SE++, an SE++ mod will deal with it. If someone calls you a name in G&T, I deal with it. If someone photoshops your head on porn, typically the first mod there will deal with it.
I mean, the thread has been well-behaved (in my opinion) with the exception of the image thing, which isn't a huge deal but something I'd rather not see people eat an infraction over.
It's 500kb for any image, but gifs are the most common because anything beyond a few frames is likely to be a meg or more. You'd have to post a desktop wallpaper or something to hit the limit on other formats, but you can do it.
If you're super paranoid and using Chrome, you can use this extension to restore the Image Properties option to the right-click menu. Why this is absent from Chrome, I have no idea.

Something for Icy, I guess, but would it be possible to get a [nsf56k] bbcode? Sort of like a alternate img bbcode , but it just shows a thumbnail and doesn't actually load until you click it?

The getting a thumbnail of an animated gif is not easy without loading the whole thing. They would also have to store a copy on the server.
Would be nice to have a link that when you click it embeds the image rather than having to right click to open in a new tab.
In chrome you can also right click->inspect element then click on the img src link to see the image properties.
Crap, well I've been doing it the hard way. I've been loading them in a new tab, inspecting, switching to the Network tab, and then force reloading to check the size.

I've fairly fond of the FIMFiction approach to images in comments. Instead of an image all you get is a link to the image, and if you click that link it opens the image in place. That way the image is never loaded in the first place unless you request it.

Source. Incidentally, if you're into this sort of thing the guy who commissioned this is probably the best author in the fanfic side of the fandom. I'm not sure there's a thing he has written that I wouldn't recommend.

Hey look, blackface ponies!
The Bro is too strong for you to resist for long.
I was actually talking about "bronies".
While I'm not an SE++ mod, I do have the power to ding people that post overly large images. So...don't do it.
Way under.
