Games You Wish For

Although I can't remember specifically seeing one, I know these types of threads must pop up from time-to-time. Of course, everyone has different dreams and wishes, so please have common courtesy for other members' ideas.

Mutant League Football - 360/PS3
You know you want it. I hate sports and sports games, but I used to play the old '90-something hockey and football games with my brother just to try and see what kind of injuries I could tally up. The Mutant League games were so awesome. I am disappointed they have yet to spawn a remake. It wouldn't take much money or time to develop either. Just script a basic arcade football game and focus dev time on the gore, dismemberment, and special abilities. They could throw in a career mode that would track your players' stats, skills, and progression. They could even add XP and levels for the characters.

Just think of the hype that could be generated too. It would be a definite best seller. I imagine a commercial being release before any word of the game hits the press. It shows a seemingly typical stadium packed with cheering fans. The camera panning around the stands shows the excitement of those gathered coupled with quick cuts to the locker rooms of the two teams getting ready to play. No parts of the athletes are shown except for their backs, helmets, shoes. The teams line up and start heading out to the field. We might catch a glimpse or two of a sillouetted player against the stadium lights. A far-away arial shot shows the players take their spots on the field. We see one side take position for the kick, but still don't see the players themselves. We can hear the kick, but only see the faces of the fans overcast with a small shadow as they follow the ball with their eyes. As it comes down on the other end of the field, we see, in slo-mo, the arms of a receiving player reach out. But something's different. His flesh is putried and half-rotted. He catches the ball and the camera quickly zooms out to see the entire receiving team. A skeleton, a couple zombies, a troll, a few goblins. They all rush towards the camera, screaming as they advance up the field. Cut to title: Mutant League Football. I think I came a little just typing that up.

Shining Force IV - Any System
Yes, yes, I know there are new Shining games out, but they are not in the tradition of the Force series. They're some kind of crappy Action-RPG. Give me a tactical, turn-based, top-down, battlefield RPG with a large cast of unique characters (some hidden) from many races and various classes. And give me the option of PROMOTING them. I don't know if it speaks for the simplicity of games back in the Gensis days, but whenever I reached the point of promotion for a character in a Shining Force game, I was always ecstatic. It's an all-around satisfying way of measuring progress. Your characters looked different, had new abilities, a new class, and were stronger. I never got a chance to play Shining Force III (any of them), so I would absolutely love any company that made a new Shining Force in the same vein as the classics. Even if it was EA.

Beyond Oasis 2 - Wii
Beyond Oasis on the Genesis was pretty damnd entertaining. Even though I normally don't like Action-RPGs, it was just very enticing. I think it had to do with the spirits that you could summon. Decent puzzles mixed with simple, but varied combat, combined with interesting ways to summon spirits (like summoning Shade off of an enemy's reflective armor) just went together to make a great game. I'd like to see a sequel for the Wii. The added control features could be used for special moves and summons.

Post-Apocalyptic Zombie MMO
I know someone's gonna say it eventually, so I'll get it over with. I have personally seen at least two threads dedicated strictly to this game idea, and I know how serious and passionate people can get over it. So let's just all understand that everyone will imagine this game differently and leave it at that. Try to keep Zombie MMO discussion out of this thread unless you have a premise/system/feature idea that you honestly believe is very unique and will not cause this thread to degenerate into a shitfest.

I wish for a Marvel Legends Action-RPG without the isometric view. Something along the lines Crackdown, taking place in New York (as it's Marvel superhero Mecca, and the Spider-Man games already have the foundation laid out), and the ability to create your own character.

I always wanted some sort of mech or flight sim game combined with an FPS. However, the key point is that the game's ALWAYS in first person, and the interiors of the vehicles are accurately modeled so that you walk on foot up to your mech/plane, open the hatch, actually get in and sit down, and operate the vehicle with all the dials and readouts physically on the cockpit. Seamless transitions like that are one thing that would infinitely increase the immersion. Similarly, in spaceship games like EVE and so on, it would be super awesome to be able to stop piloting your craft, get up from the pilot seat, actually walk around the interior, and when you dock with a space station be able to walk over to the airlock, open the hatch, and walk around the inside of the station.

And yeah, speaking of MMOs, the whole Everquest model is really outdated, we've definitely progressed in technology to the point where we can have a little more variety in things like the battle/quest systems.

You might want to check out the Mugen project DC vs. Marvel. It's still in development, but so far you can get Superman, Wonder Woman, Ice, Elastic Man, Superboy, Lobo, Captain America, Thor, Spiderman, Ironman, Wolverine, Crystal, Strong Guy, Dr. Doom, and Carnage. Many more characters are in the works, plus you can add any other Mugen characters you can find. The art and controls are all done in the Marvel Vs. Capcom fashion.

I agree that the MMO genre really needs some innovation. I love the idea of MMOs, but I have not found a single one that I can really enjoy past the first free month.

A lego MMO with each player having a set size lot to build on. Guild/clans/groups can get together and have larger lots based on player count (or somesuch), leading to huge Roman-era towns, futuristic space stations and fully interactive lego battlefields in any setting that Lego has produced.

God I hope the Lego MMO that was announced end up like this.

EVE exists, if you dont like it you are either in Empire, with a crappy corp, in the middle of 1000 people fleet battles, or you dont know how to play, also realize that "Avoid podkilling zones" is bad to click.

A true "create-a-fighter" game where you have full control over the look of your character and the exact movements for each of the attacks that you create. You could have all of your attacks saved in a way that would allow for you to go back and edit them later and trade them with other people. It would also be really cool if there were two versions with the game that you could choose from, one 2D and the other 3D, with a ton of different modes within each game type. Of course the game could start you off with some generic fighters and moves but it would later incorporate your creations into the game itself, making them computer controlled opponents that you could face in the one player "arcade" mode.

Ideally this would be multi-platform so everyone would be able to play it. A Wii specific version would have to be done though so that you could use the motion sensing to create your attacks and maybe even incorporate your Mii into the game.

I too have been disappointed with the limits imposed by previous "create-a-fighter" modes and games. However, it would be near impossible to create your own fighter, with as much intricacy and detail as you suggest, with traditional 2D. That would require the player to create/modify their own sprites for each new move. But the move editors could be done in 3D, then once the move is completed, the engine could use a special rendering process to "flatten" everything into a cell-shaded, traditional-looking 2D game or something.

I didn't even think about a create-a-fighter mode with the Wii. That could really be something cool. You could just move the remote and nun-chuck for the right and left hands/feet in order to get the basic movement down, and then tweak it to perfection. Hm...

That actually sounds like a really good way of going about that.

I remember there was a game for the PS1 (actually called Create-A-Fighter I think) that was all about customization in a fighting game but it turned out to be just assigning different moves to skins that the game gave you. From what I heard anyway. It all sounded rather "meh" though. Of the best game modes where you create the look of your own fighter I have seen I think I would have to go with Soul Calibur 3. Virtual Fighter 5 actually looks like it pulls this off pretty well though.

Fighter Maker for the PS1 and Fighter Maker 2 for the PS2 let you make a fighter, frame by frame. FM1 only gives you about 20 pre-made character models yo use, while FM2 had a decent (though not as huge as one would like) selection of costume options. They're both pretty cool in that you can literally make whatever moves you want (albeit limited to more mundane stuff, no hadoukens), but you have to do it frame by frame. Making a character in one of those, you quickly learn to appreciate how much work goes into actual fighting game characters.
