valley_of_the_kings_by_brukhar-d31jb4k.jpg

Premise: January 1939 - Rare artifacts associated with ancient necromantic magic have begun to surface on the black market in Cairo. Members of a clandestine British agency known as "Prometheus" have been dispatched to Egypt to secure the artifacts and locate their source.

Genre: Pulp in the style of Indiana Jones, The Mummy, The Rocketeer, etc
Setting: Egypt, January 1939
System: Prose Descriptive Qualities (PDQ) - FREE DOWNLOAD (Core system of Ninja Burger)
Length: This one-shot adventure ran 4-5hrs face-to-face
Post Frequency: Striving for at least one post a day from everyone
Players: 2-4 desired

Character Creation:

Qualities: In this setting, mystic or occult related knowledge and skills are fair game. Follow the guidance in the rules to come up with qualities that are not too narrow and not too broad.

Strength Ranks: 10 - Equal to the pluses added up from all your positive qualities (ex. Five qualities at +2 OR Two qualities at +4 and One at +2, etc)

Weakness Ranks: 2 - Identify one quality at -2 rank that your character is particularly bad. Needs to be something interesting that could come up during play

Equipment: Pulp characters typically have mundane items within easy reach when they need them. An up-front equipment list isn't necessary. However, if your character has something unusual or rare, list it and we can talk about it.

Background: A few sentences describing your character's background and their role in Prometheus

Personality: A few sentences capturing your character's personality, motivation, etc

---

I'll be accepting submissions through Thursday 4/18. Hope to kick this adventure off next weekend.

Thanks for looking!

Sweet. I'll need to read up on the system but I'm definitely in.

I'd like to play a bookish expert in ancient Egypt if you'll have me. I'll need to read up on the system a bit so I can get a handle on character creation.

I'm torn between a professor of Egyptology and a thief with a special knack for breaking into cursed pyramids. Hard to choose. Any thoughts?

Someone with book learnin' or street learnin', eh? Either archetype would fit perfectly well into the adventure.

The professor character couldn't be so frail or defenseless that he couldn't be sent into the field, though.

As for the thief, there are certainly no short supply of booby trapped tombs but raiding truly cursed pyramids requires more than just quick reflexes and a keen eye. He'd need some sort of occult knowledge or skills to combat the curse.

I think the main issue with the professor is he's not going to be a master of fisticuffs.

Depends on how you spin it. There are tons of sporting activities available at an upscale university that would belay a defensive or offensive skill: boxing, wrestling, fencing, shooting, archery come to mind.

Man, I sort of love the idea of him knowing how to fence and shoot.

Is it possible to take a negative to magical lore? Like if we were playing a character who was so convinced that science can explain everything they will dismiss magic as trickery.

Sure! That's a very Scully-like attribute. No doubt Prometheus would need to employ a few skeptics to be able to find real instances of occult dealings.

Awesome, I was having trouble figuring out what sort of things I'd settle on but reading All Star Western again gave me some ideas. My professor is going to be a skeptic who isn't used to working with others very much.

No sweat, Heir. Picking a concept was probably the hardest part.
