Windows 7 (SP1) Registry repairing
A friend of mine is currently facing a corrupted registry on her Windows installation. There's the obvious fix method in front of her that will clean-slate her Windows install and drive (I believe she can manually back things up prior), but before she does that she's asking (and so I'm asking on her behalf) if there's any means of repairing the Windows 7 registry without taking the long, tedious route.

There is a full explanation here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/What-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7
Let me know if anything has been tried so far, and if you have any questions about the different recovery types.
Note: In the worst case, Windows 7 will upgrade to itself. While your friend will lose many program settings, she might not lose all of them.
