err'thing always building towards an end, right?

The_Four_Horsemen_by_Rive6.jpg

dis some real four horseman type shit right here

i always kind of conceptualize the end times as mankind's climax; i assume that if there is some omniscient, thoughtful power that he knows a little about continuity and how to construct a narrative. obviously our 200,000 some years here need to end with a cumshot; i mean, look at the cold war and the specter of nuclear winter. a big, hot explosion!

to quote archer:
Are you coming?

No, but I'm breathing fast. Heh heh heh.

< has never had a falling or flying dream

I had a dream last night!
I was at this bigass mansion and there was this thing going on, I don't know if it was for some larp bullshit (I've never done anything like that) or for some like secretive agency having an event or something but I remember that, of the hundreds or so present, each person had different goals. Like, I don't know, a forum phalla or something (I've never participated in one of those). I had a backpack and apparently its contents were hella important to my goal and others'. I remember everything being pretty calm and people were kinda just hanging out and then suddenly this event started happening where people were showing up and if you were caught doing something out of line then you were out or something. I remember locking myself in a small room and thinking "man there's a window this isn't helpful" and there was a bigass cabinet like the ones beneath the sinks in bathrooms and I wondered if I could fit inside of it and I woke up
Often, my dreams end not when something bad happens. It's more like something too complex or out of line causes my dream to crash like a program or something.

Big endless interior architecture is such a thing in dreams and I really want to read some kind of study into it. Is it all a conglomeration of memories of being a toddler and wobbling your way around a house that seemed like a giant self-enclosed world at the time? Hallways and classrooms in big elementary schools?

Likewise complicated social situations that are sort of Ill-defined but bearing consequences , but that one basically sounds like waking life. : p

If only you knew someone going into neuroscience or psychology.

*starts organizing Shivahn's classes for her*

*deletes her proposed thesis paper summary and emails a new one to her professors*

*sets passive aggressive outlook calendar alarms to remind her to email me periodic updates on how "our" research is going*

You'd better just hope crayfish dream :P

    Also I like 'our' research.

It reminds me of when 'we' got my uncles and aunts presents for Christmas, for a family.

That I was always excited to see them open so I could see what it was.

Not really activist, but just dumb, there were some girls outside a 7-11 downtown asking me to "donate for cancer".

And I asked why I would want to give money for cancer.

And, exasperated, one said, "No, we're for the cause of cancer!"

    Not better.

    @spacekungfuman

I think the notion that Oblivion (Which I haven't played, but I play Skyrim, so I'll assume it's very similar) is 'selling out 101' pretty much invalidates what you're saying because that is predicated on the notion that what you find enjoyable is right and what other people find enjoyable is wrong. It's arrogance to a ridiculous degree. The success of The Elder Scrolls isn't Bethesda selling out. It's Bethesda creating something that people enjoy.

When it comes down to it, the kind of experience you're looking for is not really present in games. The social consequences of making decisions in Fallout are just as superficial as in Elder Scrolls. There is still a singular story they are telling, and you go through the game following the linear path the developers have set for you. There is no DM dynamically reacting to your actions or words. There is only the simulation of morality by smoke and mirrors. Because Fallout presented it in a way that allowed you to suspend disbelief while Elder Scrolls does not has nothing to do with the quality of the game, or even their dedication to their genre, but your own expectations.

To accuse someone who does not set out to meet your expectations of 'selling out' means you lack the ability (Or the will) to consider how anyone else plays a role or expects to play a role.

almost all my dreams are like this

well, they don't have the same social interactions, but there are rarely any supernatural or absurd visuals, or really anything that I'd describe as a dreamscape.

    @kaleedity

Let me guess: down a hallway, into a room for a little while, then back out, into another room which is also not the "right" room for an indefinable reason, down the stairs, room, also wrong room, upstairs, up more stairs, next room, only there for a little while, back to a hallway, etc.?

Anyone you interact with is only there for a little while and if you turn your back or leave a room they're just gone into thin air?

    Am I close?

I think the thing about the ME approach to RPGs is that your character is not completely open ended. However you play the game, you are still Shephard and so the ability to form the character is available within certain parameters.

Which I prefer. Because it means that the story of the game can carry a lot more depth because it becomes possible to have significant impact within the game world.

Oh shiiiii look at all the wrong people
I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, "Come and see!" I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.

I will amend my previous post to say that moral consequences DO exist in games.

Just not ones with a narrative.

Simcity has the moral consequences that go with making 'evil' choices.

But as soon as a game has a storyline that ends, those consequences go out the window, short of simply ending your character through death or failure.
