I don't know if there was a party or not, but if there was, I sure missed it.
I finally picked up The 2nd Runner after all the good I've heard about the series, even though I skipped the first completely.
The game has an explanation of the first game's story, so I guess I didn't miss much.
I'm up to Inhert now, and getting fairly schooled, but I'm sure I'll be able to take him down eventually.
This reminds me a lot of Metal Gear Solid with mecha warfare. No surprise since the graphics engine and cutscenes look almost exactly alike, aside from the anime.
I wish the opening didn't show so much of the game's forthcoming events, but oh well.
Here's some images so the thread isn't completely devoid of content:
One of the main things the intro showed off that I knew I would like is being able to take on huge gatherings of enemies at once. Nothing like melee insanity.
I guess the main thing I'd like to know is why the first isn't considered as good as the second. The story looked interesting to me.
And I hate Viola already.
She better stay dead this time.
Oh, and if I'm not mistaken, I definitely have some kind of re-release, since it has the 'dagger' Konami logo instead of the old-school one, and ads for Subsistance and Metal Gear Ac!d 2 on the back.

The first one is decent for the story, despite whiny protagonist, but the second one has so much more meat to it, both gameplay and story-wise. If you can though, I'd say pick the first game up for cheaps, shouldn't be too hard.
Also the games have a couple of great songs in them. I like the main theme of the second game (Beyond the Bounds) and the ending theme (Trusting Peace), and the first game has a gem called 'A Light with the name of Hope', I believe. Most of the gameplay music isn't really my cup of tea outside of its context though.
The fact that any third game would probably only come out on the PS3 makes me even more sad.
Such a great pair of games. It's pretty awesome that a third one is being made, despite being a (at least for now) PS3 exclusive.
But I bet it was rereleased, and they're selling it as used, because it's brand new.
I've seen four copies of it in this area alone.
Reason why people see ZOE2 as "better" then ZOE1 is basically progression.
In ZOE1, your a pacifist teenager using a mech who's A.I. hasn't even been formatted for battle yet. You have to essentially teach it how to fight. So, fighting's more slow paced and deliberate, and even the simpilist of units gives you a decent challenge, until they both get fairly used to one another, and that only happens late in the game against Viola. Which means Jehuty finally achieves legitamite orbital frame status. Before, you had trouble fighting fucking LEVS.
And then Anubis comes in and ruins your shit.
ZOE2, you go from Orbital Frame to mechanized god of destruction. Jehuty was ment to be equal to Anubis, who already is a fucking beast. You start off as an orbital frame level mech with a more aggresive pilot(Dingo, who actually puts a scratch on Anubis, compared to RUNNING THE FUCK AWAY kid, even though it's essentialy the same Orbital frame) to OH MY GOD I JUST TOOK OUT AN ENTIRE ARMADA BY MYSELF.
The levels of kickassery in 2 FAR superceed what happens in 1, which is why people like it more. However, if you play both, you get a complete sense of acomplishment seeing A.D.A develop through both games.
I didn't play One, because dammit, I needed badass mode right the fuck now.
Seriously, ZOE2 is the best Super Robot game EVER. PERIOD. There is no discussion, it just is.
Also, I played the first game on medium and kicked its ass. Then when I got ZoE2 I started on medium and that time it was I whose ass got kicked. It's a lot tougher. Second time through I was a lot better at it though. The game really rewards skill.
First, you tell us all why 2 is better than 1. Then you say you haven't even fucking played it?
The reason why part 2 is better is because it is larger in scope, has much more varied levels and set pieces and is longer.
Also the fact that ZoE1 is much, much easier than the first game by any standards renders your point moot. When you start ZoE2, your abilities are just as basic as at the start of 1.
Sorry, I was just giving the impression that other's had in the last ZOE1 thread.
And by the way, the "harder" stadpoint wasn't a gameplay point, it was a storywise point.
Hell, you fight LEV's in 1 correct?
In 2 you so much as BREATH on them and they die.
Edit:
Oh shit.
I realized exactly what mech I was up against when it broke out the Options.
It was awesome.
Indeed. ZoE 2 is a fine example of a sequel fixing the problems if the first game
I'm not sure. I looked for information and confirmation and really found nothing. I only found a hint at it in an interview with Kojima. When asked if he was planning on making a third, he smiled and laughed, said his focus was on MGS4 at the moment, but then after that it was entirely possible. We, the fans, definitely want it!
He better make it... or else...um... I'll be upset?
Not to turn this into a PS3 thread, but would you buy the system for that game if announced/released? I'm weak, and if I didn't already have one, I'd probably break by then. :P
A new Snatcher?
(Yeah, right)
An English translation of Policenauts would be nice.
Maybe as a PSP game?
Sooner or later...
Stupid Kojima and his stupid awesome games.
Good god, I wish every game had as many moments of "holy shit, that was awesome" as ZoE2 did.
Unless he starts a new Metal Gear series, and it's focused on a new character (new bad-ass Raiden?). Although, perhaps not, as he did say he's growing tried of the series.
You have my problems.
And my sympathy.
I don't recall that mission, but I remember I'd always get stuck somewhere in the middle, when there's a major fight where a certain degree of precision is required, and it's almost impossible to do if you're replaying with the retardedly powerful "naked" Jehuty.
The second one delivered on every level though. Definitely one of my top five PS2 games.
The only thing that wasn't better was the localization: the voices themselves were fine, but the translation smacked of engrish godawfulry ("You have your duty to do." "You should stay home and do your homework at home.").
Regardless, this is THE definitive giant robot game of the last generation. The battle against Zakat remains one of my favorite boss battles of all time; a setting above the clouds, a beginning and ending anime cutscene were both sides yell at each other, and a rocking techno song.
ZOE 3 remains my second most desired PS3 game after an FFVII Remake (and Silent Hill 5 remains third most desired).

I think it was making a lot of tongue in cheek jokes at giant robot anime where people just can't come up with witty lines on the fly.
For example. In the part
