I am really into Forsaken Lands. I used to play back in the day before Everquest but never could get down playing one. I would always get lost and killed by a lvl 50 but I am really liking Forsaken Lands. It is the most newbie friendly mud I have ever played and Roleplaying is strictly enforced. They will put you in a box if you just say Going to the bathroom or AFK. They are understand though until you hit a certain lvl. I have WoW activate but I am playing this instead because it is not nearly as time consuming and you don't spend an hour running across world cuase the only thing that slows you down is getting lost but once you have that down you can go across the map in 10 min. Anyone playing any muds currently that are good?
I used to play MUDs so hard back in the day. I just can't get into them anymore, though. My friend went back to one we played back in the day, called AshenMUD, and basically 'beat' it over a few months. If you're looking for something else to play, go look up the DragonBall MUD I built for. >.> <.< >.>
I had the rule books, expansion books and about 30 gear models all painted- but I didnt know a single person that played the game and non of my friends would try it beyond an initial try and they were stubron with the rules.
ugh ive played more muds than i can count, and i taught myself how to code by messing around with mud bases back in jr high. definitely tons of fun if you find a good one with a good community.
thing is, back in the day its where the cool kids would hang out, since they were the precursors to mmo's -- social gaming on a larger scale than the n64 or super nintendo in your basement -- and that is what made them really fun. nowadays, people are playing wow et al. so muds tend to be pretty lonely, boring things.
I have homework, but I will totally give FL a whirl. I love me a good MUD and the one you mentioned looks a lot like this God Wars MUD I played for a while when I was younger. Consider me psyched Now I just have to finish my work
I currently play a star wars based MUD called Revenge of the Jedi the website is jedi.betterbox.net if you want to check it out. The game itself is huge but the player base has dropped quite a bit mainly because of WoW ect. but there are still on avg around 10-20 people who play at any given time.
You can't beat MUSHing if you're looking for serious roleplaying.
And that's the reason why it's a god damn shame the only MUSHes in town these days appear to be concerned with Harry Potter or being a furry.
Yeah, but honestly, even in the old days it was really hard to find populated MUSHes, and those that were populated were almost universally based on either licensed properties or cybersex (or both). I played on the Shadowrun Seattle MUSH for years, and while it was extremely fun, there were rarely more than 20-30 players logged in at any time.
I don't even bother trying to MUSH anymore--everyone's moved on to MMOs, and most MUSHes have disappeared. Those that still exist either suck or are barely populated.
I used to play on a handful of MUSHes or MUCKs back in the day. NeoTokyo, Phoenix...Prodigy, a few I can't even remember the names of any more. But I must have spent between two and five years on NeoTokyo alone. Good times, good times...
I used to play heavily on Discworld, could never get into another MUD during or after that one. Moved onto WoW after about four years, and now I'm totally burnt out on the whole MUD/MMO thing.

It was a shame.
Anyways- the Heavy Gear mud was all kinds of fun.
I really miss heavy gear.
I just tried to play a MUD. The Discworld one.
I tried basic stuff like "read white sign" and "look up" but none of it was recognized. i gave up on it. i guess i am not made for muds.
I KISS YOU!

If you're talking about RP, then you're not really talking about a MUD anymore. RP-based text servers are MUSHes or MUXes.
That said, I did a fair amount of MUSHing years ago. You can't beat MUSHing if you're looking for serious roleplaying.
