The Sweeney is ok but man Minder and The Professionals are absolutely diabolical. They have aged like, well, a whole lot of other stuff from seventies TV.

Goodreads tries to do this. It doesn't work especially well.

The book thread here is slightly better than it.

The Bourne Identity has a little section set just where I used to live in France.

I don't remember much else from that book.

Vertical Run is basically Die Hard but way more shit happens.

EDIT: And it's not a Tom Clancy book.

After about a week in Europe, I find myself rapidly getting bored with travel.

The impetus to always be doing something is just tiring, and on some level "looking at stuff" tends to become a wholly unsatisfying experience.

Are you in London / The UK at any point?

My parents' old bookstore had a bunch of Eric van Lustbader books in the early 90s. I never cracked them, but they were like, in the Bourne Identity section and I remember them having that kind of flavor, having read all the back covers and inside flaps of every book they ever had.

@Kalkino what adventures are afoot in London this weekend? We fancy popping down to the big smoke. Ideally we'd go to see the David Bowie exhibition at the V&A, but it's sold out into the distant future.

that's a p good example, though i've already read it. hopefully stuff that veers less towards like, WOOOO AMERICA FUCK THE BROWNS, 20 PAGE LECTURES ON CAPITALISM

but that's the general idea yes, fights and spies and soldiers and so on without crazy corporations and cabals and mad scientists like the cussler stuff

Man I know Tom Clancy does this too but Dan brown does something similar as well where it's all like 'omg you guys the priory of sion is totes real people are Sooo dumb for not realizing this!'

It's like is there a lot of authors who do this bullshit, preach at the reader about a set of ideals and beliefs through the protagonists? Can I get a list so I can avoid these people?

There's also... shit what was it called... there was an 80s/early 90s series that was essentially the conceit of RED. Old superspies killing everyone ever.

Had names like ______ Ultimatum, ______ Gambit, and somesuch.

EDIT: But not Bourne. Something else. I'm like 95% positive it's a different series.

Sadly no otherwise I'd come and and spend all my money buying whatever whiskey you recommended.

Copenhagen at the moment, then Geneva, Marseille and then Amsterdam - which I've been through the airport of at least twice now, and discovered their wifi explicitely blocks email.

It might also be that Bulgaria spoiled me a bit - Silistra is a pretty nice city, and everything is incredibly cheap due to the exchange rate whereas Denmark feels expensive by comparison even though the kroner is denominated in comically huge values.

Marseille is nice in that strangely dirty yet pretty way. Although they are up for European City of Culture so the old port was a massive construction site when I was there. They might have finished that by now.
