Misrepresentation of Assets?

So my friends parents are getting a divorce, and have recently discovered that his dad is removing things from the house and placing them somewhere so that when the time comes to divide things up, his mom gets half of less than she should.

Is there anything they can directly do against this? Is it fraud? Or is this something that you can't really do anything against since he DOES still technically own the items (though the mother does too...) that they can use against him in the future?

Your friend's mom needs to talk to a lawyer, and tell him/her what's happening.

They can probably get some sort of court order to stop the father from doing that/forcing him to produce the items, pending the divorce.

Lawyer, yes - as thantos suggested. Also, get the mother to make a list of all the things that have been taken if she can. As well, take photos and/or serial numbers of other items that are suspected to disappear in the future. This will help out the lawyer tremendously.
