[Scrolls] A trading based miniatures game
Posts
I accept your challenge.
I noticed with a couple extra cards I had a much easier time of things. The other part is that some cards have synergy that might not be totally apparent. I thought the nutrition card was stupid until I saw some dude use it to pull out an early Jarl on me.
Yeah, some things make you go oooh and then you have a new toy in your arsenal.
I have a Magma Pack (double the attack value, kill creature after it attacks) I use to kill heavy hitters when I can, as long as they're not Relentless and will rampage through my entire line.
Also I feel order requires more game knowledge to do well with (setting up formations and using them to kill things effectively, how to abuse the cd reduction for maximum effect on an honorable general without losing it etc). I honestly would not suggest it to a new player in fact the only precon I would suggest is energy, the other two just miss some important cards (and they can be really hard to get for growth).
For instance growth is missing god hand, and quake. God hand or rally is a good way to finish the game once you get the upperhand but you only have 2 rallys in the deck. Quake is necessary to pull a game back to an even stance if the enemy gets the upper hand and is about the only way a growth player can do this (Frost gale can do it really early but It's difficult to pull off)
Order only has one blessing of haste (and no speed) so it's hard to abuse the honorable general you get. Which is basically all you need to make that deck much better and as there are very few order players you should be able to trade for it easier.
Energy however has a ridiculous amount of control spells in the precon (Woo burn!) which is good as there start slow. Couple this with 1x iron ogre and 2x cannon automation (along with bombard and concentrate fire) you have a few good ways to finish the game once you get the upperhand. Also trading would be easier than growth as everyone seems to want the growth rares.
Granted I play growth and haven't messed with the other two yet so I am a little biased.
XBL:Phenyhelm - 3DS:Phenyhelm
quake makes it a lot easier but yea it's hard with the precon growth deck.
This is how I finally killed it:
Not Growth, though I'm starting to blend some of the low-cost scrolls in.
Some general observations:
1) Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake. See the automaton in the upper-left of his field? That little fucker was a problem, because he had the upper half of the field so covered with lobbers of various stripes that I could never keep anything alive in that area long enough to kill it. It single-handedly did most of the damage to those two idols I lost. But then, he fucked up: he blocked it in. And I stalwartly refused to even try to kill those lobbers, because they couldn't touch my idols, so as long as I stayed out of that section of the field, they were dead weight.
2) Enchantments stack. Two Vengeance on a General, followed by a Kabonk? It's some fucked up shit, man.
3) Almost dead is still alive. There was one point when I could have sacrificed some mans to protect the middle idol, but I didn't. As long as I stayed strong in the south end and didn't let him clear the second row of those lobbers, he couldn't touch any of the three remaining idols. That's the point where I started to snowball, gradually keeping my guys alive longer and longer, keeping his machine priests on lockdown, and building up a full hand. Know when to fold 'em.
Yeah, there's definitely a skill in knowing when you need to let some hits through instead of soaking them with your mans so you can use said mans to strike back even harder. Very often you can ignore units for several turns.
edit: had three Cannon Automatons on the board, enemy had 5/5/10 on his last three idols. Swept the board, popped Concentrated Fire on one automaton to deal with the full-health idol, nuked them.
1. be growth
2. put all of your stuff in the middle
3. pick the side that has less enemy stuff on it, sac the other side
4. be the greatest scroller
It doesn't work against people who have paid to win.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My terrifying reign may be about to come to a swift end
I still need quake but not sure how often I'd actually use it. Only had 2-3 matches so far that I thought it'd be good in.
I finally took it through a very slow and calculated buildup. There's like 3 spots the lobbers can't hit at first. Opening with a Vaettr of the Wild gave me that free growth (which was a huge help) and he stuck around since the lobbers couldn't hit him. Got some wolves out, combo-ed them with a great wolf and a a buffed sister, and finally had enough damage to take out machines faster than the AI could drop em.
Also the trials seem to be a bit of luck as well, got slaughtered one round due to bad draws, next round the ai only got buildings and buffs for the first 15 turns.
And if you have a lot of guys, you're probably winning anyway.
Work up enough resources to finally get a good unit on the field? Oh, this card means I can throw it back in your deck. Desperately trying to block that idol that will die in the next attack with a building? No problem, I can move that anywhere I want.
Trying to save your last idol with your last unit that is crazy buffed to withstand all these attack? Don't worry, I can't put that back in your deck.
But you can be damn sure I can slide it down a hex.
Why do they give the AI a deck that just fucks with you?
Need to put the useless fox units back in mah deck then.
I've seen the AI stack them.
It's fucking nasty.
Heh, I just had the other version happen. Order dude makes some big mistakes blowing all his enchants on his general, which I just lock in place with a dryadic power and promptly ignore. (Even worse he had already spawned his other general and lost it.) Game is over by about round 20, but he decides to just stall it out. Even going so far as to let the timer tick down when on the last round because he knows he's going to finally lose.
That is quite gentlemanly of you. I like it.
I probably want to stock up on Memorials of all flavors.
It is now all I want to do.
