Possible last minute solo trip to Iceland. Never done this before.

So I finally know that I can move before my vacation week at the end of the month, so I decided that I want to go on a trip by myself. I have no particular attachement to Iceland other than it looks like a beautiful country to visit. This is on the last week of june, which is apparently big on tourism over there.

I've never done this kind of trip before, so I'm not sure how I should proceed. Should I plan everything in advance or can I just land there and wing it?

- I'd rather not spend too much money on hotels/bedrooms, the plane tickets are already quite expensive! I don't care much about comfort or anything fancy. Just a place where I can sleep and store my things safely when I'm out exploring.

- I don't think I want to buy some big activity package that guides me through everything but I still want the oportunity to visit cool places, and socialize a bit with people since I'll be alone. So maybe I would sign up for a few activites when I'm over there. Not sure how much I can do by myself. I wouln't be driving a car, but I'd love to rent a bike to explore some beautiful areas at my leisure, if that's doable.

There's probably a ton of questions I should be asking but I don't know them, I'm not even sure how such a trip will play out, just hoping to have some fun!

Friends used AirBnB (for accommodation) in Iceland and recommended it to me when I was thinking of a trip recently

Definitely do the "Golden circle" thing. It's a little tourist route that takes you through Thingvellir (some kind of area that was waaaay too windy for me to check out properly), a bitchin' waterfall (Gullfoss) that you can get all up in, and two pretty cool geysers: "Strokkur" and the somewhat less imaginatively named "Geysir". You can get through them all in day pretty easily.

I would also recommend the food in some jazz restaurant in the south west, but I have no idea where we were. It's a tiny country though, that might be enough.

Iceland has plenty of paved roads that you can ride a bicycle on.

They also seem to have quite a few "gravel" roads, that might give you trouble on a bike. And by "gravel" I mean fist sized rocks arranged in the shape of a road. Not that they were that much easier on a rental car, just saying.

Golden circle thing is pretty good, we had a one day stop there on our way to France and did a small tour. Beautiful, but my impression was there wasn't enough to fill a week - just a 2-3 day thing. Certainly glad I went. We landed in Keflavik (SE of Reykjavik) and you get bussed to the capital. From there we did the tour thing, took all day.

http://www.extremeiceland.is/en/the-golden-circle/golden-circle-by-minibus - I believe that's the one we did. They have a number of packages. 9500ISK is (not EVE money) about 80 bucks.

Anyone under 35 or so has learned English more or less as their first language. I think the first restaurant we saw was Subway. I would plan in advance, if you're going to rent a car or something then you could give yourself a floater day to tool around.
