PS4 Interface Official Trailer:

PS4 Purchases, Deals, Retailers and other assorted odds and ends

I'll reserve this area for any trustworthy retailers, sweet deals, or bundles for the PS4. As you guys post stuff I'll update this.

Best buy is currently running a deal for $10 off PS+ for a year. Details.

Thank @DevoutlyApathetic for this information.

*NOTE ABOUT AMAZON*

If you pre-ordered from Amazon, please be aware that they have created two "editions" for the console's release - a "Launch" edition and a "Standard" edition. There is absolutely no difference between these versions whatsoever. The "Launch" PS4s are simply those that are guaranteed to be release day delivery. When Amazon ran out of their promised stock, they added a "Standard" bundle that did not have a guaranteed delivery date. Both systems are otherwise exactly the same.

FAQ: (I will add to this as we know more information)

Q: Is PS4 backwards compatible with PS3 games?

A: Unfortunately, no, it is not. The PS3 architecture relied on using the Cell processor, which makes backwards compatibility a difficult thing to achieve. Sony will be launching a service called "Gakai" which will allow for streaming of games, and presumably some form of backwards compatibility via that streaming service.

Q: I've heard that you need a PS+ account to play online multiplayer, is that true?

A: Yes, with this generation you will have to purchase a PS+ account in order to play multiplayer games through the PSN. However, Free to Play online games and MMOs with a subscription fee are exempt from this policy.

source: http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/06/12/e3-2013-sonys-shuhei-yoshida-shares-relevant-details-on-playstation-plus-requirement-for-multiplayer-on-ps4/

Q: Do I have to purchase a PS+ account in order to use streaming services like Netflix, Ustream, or Hulu?

A: No, those services can be used without a PS+ account.

Q: If I purchase a PS+ account is it just for online multiplayer, or does it come with additional benefits/rewards?

A: PS+ comes with a number of benefits beyond online multiplayer. Each month, PS+ subscribers have access to a number of games that they can purchase and add to their account for free. So long as you remain a subscriber, you will be able to download and play those games at any time. You can even reserve games for systems you don't own (but should) like the Vita. If you choose not to renew your subscription to the service, you will lose access to those games until you resubscribe. Any games you bought outright (even at a discount) are yours permanently and you can download them whenever you like.

Q: Is the PS4 region locked?

A: Nope, the PS4 is region free. Source: http://www.slashgear.com/ps4-region-lock-free-sony-confirms-11285982/

Q: I just read that all games will use the remote play feature, is this true?

A: Yes, unless the game requires specific hardware like the camera. Source:
ShuheiYoshidaTweetVitaPS4Confirm.jpg

Q: Does the PS4 interact with my phone in any way?

A: Yes, Sony has promised an iOS and Android app to act as a "second screen." Source: http://m.ign.com/articles/2013/02/21/playstation-app-coming-to-iphone-ipad-and-android

After securing a launch unit from Amazon I caved and went in on PS+ and they already gave me 6 games. It doesn't even matter that 3 are for vita and I don't own a vita.

Don't worry. You're going to own a Vita. It's inevitable.

Also, yay PS4. Super excited for Second Son, and while it isn't exclusive, that Destiny demo they did was pretty incredible. Those are my two most anticipated next gen titles.

I'd pretty much written off the Vita completely and forever.

The PS4 has me seriously reconsidering that estimation, which I think of nothing less than a magnificent success on Sony's part. Not only are they making the superior console product, they've made part of it so good that it may actually make their handheld campaign successful.

I think it was posted last thread, I forget where I read it, but this is worth reposting to the new thread:
Sony Computer Entertainment head of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida is a big Oculus Rift fan, it turns out. "We've got a couple of the development kits, and I tried it out and I love it," he told us in an interview this morning at E3 2013. Whether the PlayStation 4 will support it is another question. "No, it doesn't," Yoshida told us. Not yet, that is.

When we asked whether the company's planning on offering support in the future, he only offered a "No comment" with a big smile.

Son of a fucking VR-gigalo. If they announce plans to support that, my plan to wait for preordering a PS4 will immediately go from "struggling" to "nonexistent".

This is me as well. I have a hacked PSP that plays most of the handheld games I want(ed) but learning that all of the PS4 games are going to be mandated to use either the Move (which I own) or a Vita... and then seeing the interoperability examples shown at E3 (ie. the little flying guy who buzzes in during the gameplay of Tom Clancy's The District and the person providing "assistance" on a tablet during the Watch_Dogs demo)... plus knowing what that kind of asnycronous gaming is happening _right now_ on the WiiU... well, it's really making me want to pick up a Vita "just in case" something really amaze-balls happens in a year.

I posted that, and got it from the same place! It does deserve to be here, as I have a feeling that questions on the Oculus Rift will come up again.

As for the Vita, I got one only for P4: Golden, and while not regretting the purchase, I had been considering myself less than brilliant for buying an entire system for 1 game. With the PS4 fully supporting Remote Play, though, the Vita might just become my new best friend.

So, my trip to the Home E3 space netted me:
    - Destiny Dynamic Theme (it's just slow-panning concept art)
    - Last of Us Dynamic Theme (it's also just slow-panning concept art)
    - Killzone Mercenary Beta Key
    - PS+ 1 Month Free Key
    - Music Unlimited Key
    - A bunch of cosmetic items that I'll never bother with because lolHome.

I guess the Dynamic themes are ok. Wish they were more... dynamic.

Yeah, um, does anyone happen to know how much you get at Gamestop for a 360? It's not one of the fancy models, but it's got a 120GB hard drive and an HDMI port, so it's not a launch console either.

I'm seriously considering picking up a Vita and Persona 4 (which I never got around to playing on the PS2, despite Persona 3 being one of my favorite games ever).

I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I say that I cannot remember the last time I turned my 360 on.

It is supposed to be up until E3 ends. Which is good for me; my PS3 died a horrible yellow-colored death a couple months back and the replacement isn't going to be here until late Thursday anyway. I'm probably going to skid into my local GameStop on Thursday night and try to convince them that I actually deserve the "pre-order" bonuses for The Last of Us a day before it releases.

Yep. How hard is it to orient a camera in front of your interface and just have people navigate through it?

I'll see if I can find better demos on E3's floor that showcase the interface.

Well, I canceled Best Buy pre-order because a friend said the local store fucked him over on the WiiU pre-orders. I went with Gamestop and got the The Order: 1886 bundle. Only because their Drive Club bundle had an extra controller I'll never use.

If they'll do a price drop and actually support Remote Play this time around, I'll pick up a Vita as well.

Continuing from the last thread ... I suppose if Sony makes another Blu-Ray remote for PS4 like they did for PS3, then there shouldn't be any reason a Harmony remote wouldn't be compatible (at least with some sort of adapter). I hope this happens. I just really, really like using my Harmony remote to control my PS3 as a media box and I hope to do the same with PS4.

Speaking of... any word on 4K movie support?

Okay, I'm considering subscribing for Playstation Plus, because the instant game collection has a bunch of games I want to play (Seriously - Ico/SotC collection, Demons Souls, LBP Karting and X-Com for free?). How does this work. I saw games are rotated in and out every so often. If I download, say, the Ico/SotC collection, and it gets rotated out, do I lose access to the game on my hard drive? Or does it stay accessible as long as I keep my subscription up?

You'll have access to it as long as you're subscribed. You don't even need to actually download the games just make sure they go into your "download list" in the store and you can grab them whenever you please.

That's... pretty awesome. So as long as I maintain my subscription, any game I download, even if rotated out, is constantly downloadable as long as I at least tried to download it when it was available...

Yeah, I'm going to have to subscribe. $70 a year is nothing, and those game are games I want to play, but would cost me near that much each.

Count me as one of those PS3 owners who never gave PS+ a look until now.

All games being required to be remote playable on the Vita is a massive Vita selling point for me. Massive.

When my fiancee is watching something I don't want to watch, right now I go play my PC, and she gets annoyed I spend so much time playing the PC. If she's watching say, Downton Abbey, and I can just boot up the PS4, remote in, and load up some Watch Dogs or something? Holy shit yes.

For me, its at lunch at work. My company just built a brand new HQ that we are moving into on the 1st, and we've outfitted it with full blown wi-fi to allow employees to use personal devices on. Sitting in the break room at lunch playing Watch Dogs? Hell yes I want that!
