A Mike Blais™ thread
it has come to my attention that some people here aren't aware of mexifries
I didn't think this was physically possible but I simply wouldn't be doing my duty if I didn't take this brief opportunity to educate you all having just eaten four large mexifries orders and seriously debating getting more because they are tasty
I am sure you are all aware of the glorious invention known as the Tater Tot
For those who aren't aware "tater tots" are the colloquial branding name for a particular subset of hashbrowns characterized by their cylindrical shape, texture, and crispy appearance. They are often deep fried. The actual name "Tater-Tot" is a trademark of Ore-Ida. They are sometimes also called potato puffs.
Mexi-Fries
In 1959 a small fast food franchise dedicated to semi-mexican cuisine known as "Taco Time" was opened in Eugene, Oregon by one Ron Fraedrick. Part of this restaurant's fine offering includes the "Mexifries" dish, which is a particularly seasoned brand delicious tater tots.
Mexifries can be ordered in two size varieties: regular, and large. Large is almost always ordered because once you pop a succulent mexifry in your mouth you will be unable to stop popping them forever and ever.
TacoTime also offers "deluxe" mexifries, which is similar to the regular mexifries dish but also contains beef, cheese sauce, tomatoes, and sour cream.
it is a full meal in and of itself and as such is only recommended by experts to be eaten in two large doses versus the traditional four or six of a regular large mexifries order
If you have any questions about Mexifries please direct them to myself as I am an expert in mexifries
If you so choose to discuss the OTHER finer points of potato cuisine this is of course acceptable but please use spoiler tags when describing any secret flavors so that nobody is accidentally made aware of things they haven't tried yet!
if you post your mexifries membership name I will add it to the OP so we can eat mexifries together
Frequently Asked Questions
So
they're seasoned tater tots?
Hi Blankzilla,
Good question! This is a common oversimplification so don't feel bad
Mexifries are a cylindrical hashed potato treat, that's true. Tater Tot is actually a brand (fun fact!), so they aren't those. Mexifries are precision cooked for a set (and very secret!) amount of time, seasoned with several herbs and spices to bring out a unique flavor, and scientifically designed to be the perfect one-bite size that the world is commonly familiar with now. You'll find that these differences in quality differentiate Mexifries from common potato nuggets.
Thanks for the question!

I have a question, does an order of mexifries include tiny bits of fry batter that one might find on other fired foods?
Hi Virgil,
Good Question! You will find that all our orders of Mexifries do include seasoned bits of that traditional Mexifries taste. These aren't meant to be consumed on their own! We recommend you pair them with a delicious Tacotime burrito or taco, sprinkled lightly into the beef amongst our other fresh, fine ingredients.

How can I make my own Mexifries?
Hi Fuzzbutt,
A very common question we receive! Unfortunately there's no way to replicate that authentic Mexifries taste that you'll only find at Tacotime restaurants. We recommend visiting a nearby Tacotime for best results! Our signature brand of herbs and spices isn't know and won't be found anywhere else. But if you crack the code, let us know

May I ask a question?
I have never had Mexifries. In fact, I hadn't heard of them until several minutes ago. Am I wasting my life?
Hi Butler For Life,
Yes you are!

Should I ever go to TacoTime (Goshen, IN)?

Are these anything like the delicious seasoned Potato Ole at Taco John's?
Hi Raijin,
Unfortunately I don't know! But I do know that our Mexifries can't be compared to any other potato nugget on the market in flavour, texture, or price!

I...was unaware that the spiced potato nugget is traditional mexican fare.
Mike, have you ever had to deal with bigots who claim mexifries are stealing tasty jobs from classic tater tots? Is it possible to win these people over with sheer deliciousness?
Hi Binary Squid,
Good question! We have in the past encountered some people who are concerned about the tastebud monopoly that may occur as a result of our Mexifries. I'm happy to shed some light on this issue.
In 1947, the precursor to the FDA approved several regulations that, under Maritime Law, place Mexifries outside the realm of "potatoes" and therefore they are not bound by the same trade laws and restrictions that our competitors are under. This enables us to create a unique blend of herbs and spices to place on our Mexifries that give them the signature flavor beloved across the globe.
Every year hundreds of thousands of people are won over to Mexifries thanks to their excellent nutritional value and unmatched flavour, texture, and substance. We are confident this will continue to happen.
