Too Many Acronyms

emnmnmeemnmnme Registered User regular
edited March 2007 in Games and Technology
The damned game industry has gone and gotten itself into a complicated mess by releasing too much stuff. We can't even categorize all of this now that acronyms for titles have begun to overlap. You thought 1337-speak was bad...pah! SMS - am I talking about the Sega Master Sytem or Super Mario Sunshine? SC for the GCN...hmm, Soul Calibur? No, 'GCN' means 'Nintendo Gamecube' so SC must be Splinter Cell. Not to be confused with SC: PT or SC: CT. Is SFA Starfox Adventure or Starfox Armada or Street Fighter Alpha?

But let's turn this rant into a game. I'll list three wacky acronyms plus the system and the person that figures them out adds three more. Rinse and repeat until the board is stumped. I'll start off with easy ones to get the ball rolling.

PoP:WW for XBOX
LoZ:WW for GCN
MGS: SE for PS2

EDIT: And, oh, yes, looking up all titles alphabetically on gamefaqs or somesuch is cheating. Cheating is bad, mmmkay?

    I love the way one of those acronyms is so complicated it even turned into a raspy smiley.

    Yeah, it'd be weird to see a thread called Lttp: Lttp.

    F.E.A.R. ?

    When I'm reading papers for college, I run into all sorts of acronyms that mean other things, it is impossible to read that shit normally any more.

    while this is in danger of becoming a poll thread, i have to submit GoW.

    Which one? you decide.

    edit: beat'd by a mile.

    As for S.T.A.L.K.E.R, after having it explained to me by Pancake, and hearing about the novel and film it's borrowing from, i'm more than happy to accept it. That, and the game is all sorts of cool.

    There was once an Acronym dictionary me and my nerd friends obsessed over.

    We actually got to the point where we would insult those around us (if the situation arose) with acronyms.

    WT = White Trash

    WWWT = Who would wear that?

    DMF = Dumb Mother Fucker

    We would sit on the bus, or be in line...One of us would be "WWWT"....

    The rest would look around, and then laugh simultaneausly.

    Good times.

    so, out of interest, to people actually speak in acronyms? I remember listening to one of the PA (heh) podcasts, and they were talking about 'graw' and 'wow' and stuff. I was thinking "just call it Ghost Recon". It really doesn't hurt any.
