Questions for Canadians (XBOX Live)

So Im thinking of buying a 360 this year, after having an OG XBOX, with a few BC Games, and with all the new great games for 360 this year, It's my console of choice. Although being in Canada, we have different XBLive restraints and prices from the Americans. So I have a few questions about prices, Live accounts, and 360 sku's in Canada that I'd like some help on.

1. Elite vs Pro.
I have a TV that displays 1080p natively, has HDMI, but will also accept 1080p over component, but due to HDCP, would really like my XBOX to output with HDMI. no brainier. so for what I assume will be C$579, I can get the Elite 360 (Pro US$399/C$499). Is up scaling SD DVD, 100GB larger HDD and HDMI worth the $80 difference? The answer is relevent to my next question

2. XBLive Marketplace in Canada.
In the US, you have the video marketplace, and the XBLA and the Live Marketplace. As of now, Canada doesn't have the Video Marketplace, but I hear there are ways to create a "US" gamertag and utilize the VMP. Do you need another Gold account to do this, or can it just be a silver? A larger hard drive would be great if I could access the Video Marketplace too. Also, am I right in believing that XBLA games are the same amount of MSpoints in the US as they are in Canada, but the points cost more here?

3. MSpoints
US $1.00/80 points or $1.25 for 100
CAN $1.00/65 points or $1.55 for 100

Sooo why is Futureshop charging C$29.99 for 1400p?
shouldn't it be around $22.. enlighten me.

TL;DR

Explain the cost and features of the XBOXLive Marketplace in Canada.

Assuming you can find one, get the Elite if you've got HDMI available. 6 times the storage space and HDMI function are worth the (theoretical) extra $80.

No idea about the Video Marketplace. I have no interest in that.

The MS Point cards are $19.99 CAD for 1250 points. I have never seen a 1400 point card, you must be mistaken. Price data taken from mspconverter.

All the other marketplace content is functionally identical to the US content, except the fact that a few movie trailers have a French language version available as well.

Also. Do it, you won't regret it.

That 1400 points card is the biggest rip-off ever. Why are they even selling that? An extra $10 for 150 more points (actual cost $2.40).

    Hmm. Someone did something wrong.

I've seen points cards for 1400 points. $20 at Toys 'R Us last I checked. $20 for 1250 points there too. They have points cards for 2800, and that is $40. These are just what I've seen at Toys R Us, so other places may be different.

Yeah the prices are 20 for 1400 points and 40 for 2800 points.

The 1250 are gone now from what I see.

    Howdy!

Why are we charging $29.99 for 1400 points? It's the MSRP provided to us by Microsoft. Also, it's what we're being given stock on now. I think the 1250 may be discontinued at some point.

    Hope that helps.

Video marketplace isn't available to Canadians. I haven't bothered to attempt the whole US account thing since I hear they catch on pretty quick and ban the fake ones. Or at least they did with alot of the Japanese accounts the US people set up.

From what I heard that it never actually happened. They talked about banning accounts for awhile but never actually followed through.
