Fourth of July in NYC

noir_bloodnoir_blood Registered User regular
So as the thread title says, I want to spend 4th of July in New York City and are looking for advice on stuff to do. I'm completely open to pretty much everything, from laid back stuff to going to a good restaurant. The only prerequisite is that at some point I (well, really the fiancee) would like to have a good view of some fireworks.

For the fireworks, you'll want to have a view of the Hudson River. The fireworks are basically between 20th and 40th st. The best place to view the fireworks is from New Jersey, like the northern parts of Hoboken or Weehawken.

If you want to see the fireworks from NYC, you'll have to either pay $TEXAS, or chill out on the west side high way for HOURS. The cops will probably have it closed off by 5PM.

If you staying in the city then great, go closet to the Hudson you can get and watch.. get there early be prepared to spend a while standin g around. If your not what we did was watch from E 42nd street about 1/2 a block back. Could see 2 or 3 of the barges. As soon as it was over we took off toward grand central and back to Connecticut. Considering there were a few million extra people around it didn't seem like it delayed us THAT much more when leaving. Traffic was literally at a standstill for an hour or two.. I would guess due to all the people walking back to their hotels/subway/houses. Do not depend on a cab or car to get home.
