[Nintendo 3(2)DS] THREAD IS DEAD. POST IN THE NEW THREAD!

Welcome to the Nintendo 3DS thread!
MCJjd.jpg

This is the thread for general 3DS discussion. To keep the conversation from getting too busy, try to look for other threads before posting about something in here. For example, the eShop Thread is a good place to talk about Nintendo digital store. Big game releases like Mario Kart or Zelda also tend to have their own threads. There's no hard rule against discussing those games in here, but this is a nice place to talk about smaller titles that would be unable to sustain their own threads, and obviously those larger games can easily crowd everyone else out. Finally, don't be discouraged from making game-specific threads if you feel it warrants attention. This is sort of a catch-all thread.

Free games via Club Nintendo:

Nintendo is now allowing players to buy download games for their Wii, DSi, and 3DS via the Club Nintendo website. All first party games, and some third party titles, offer codes that you can enter on the official Nintendo website. Fill out a survey and earn coins (and an additional follow-up survey for extra coins). The coins can buy a variety of posters, cases, and various neat stuff. But the games are where it's at. Every month, Nintendo is offering up four games to download.

Featured Applications:

Nintendo Video: A free download app that randomly adds short 3D movies to watch. Blue Man Group, College Humor, and Dreamworks have all contributed.
SwapNote: A free download app that allows you to send notes, pics, and sound clips to friends via Street Pass or Spot Pass.
Netflix: Link your account to your 3DS to watch (2d) movies on the small screen.
Hulu Plus: Just like Netflix, link your account to watch TV shows on the go.
3D movie recording: Record up to 10 minutes of 3D footage and upload it to youtube.
Game demos: Download demos of upcoming 3DS releases.
System Transfer: Transfer information from an existing DS, DSi, or 3DS to a 3DS. Great for when the inevitable redesign hits the scene.
A full list of additional built-in software can be found on Nintendo's 3DS site.

Other final things to do/know as a 3DS owner:

Connect with fellow PA people

Sir Ultimos has created a friend code matching system for us to easily connect with each other. Check it out: Sir Ultimos web site and friend code matcher.

Alas, poor old 3DS thread, we hardly knew ye.

By the way, something that I believe wasn't mentioned in the old thread: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/05/harvest-moon-a-new-beginning-cropping-up-in-europe-in-q3/

So probably in August or September..that'd be ideal since there aren't any games being released in these months that I'm interested in.

..unless I'll be getting The Wonderful 101 after all. Gonna have to do some soul-searching on that.

Beat Donkey Kong '94 finally. Mostly a great game, occasionally made me want to split the 3DS in half though... Too bad Nintendo is (inexplicably) not selling GBA games, I would totally buy Mario v Donkey Kong right away if they were.

Next up, went back and finished off Liberation Maiden. Nice ending, really transitions well to the visual novel. :rotate: If any of you have this what are the attack "variations" exactly? I've used all three weapons, what am I missing here?

Boo. My R-Button is only responding to a very firm press. Replacement of a launch unit that had a bad frame scratch(which this one still has). I've been eyeing a 3DSXL for a while and trying to hold out for a sale someday soon. Any chance they're bringing any more colors over here?

Has anyone mentioned how great it is now having a portable Trials clone, aka Urban Trial Freestyle? It's got some serious jank, but if you've got a dormant crack-like addiction for Trials (as I discovered) you could do a lot worse.

I haven't seen the option for live multiplayer. There's some basic friend/global leaderboard features, though they don't seem very well implemented*.

But you sure can accelerate, brake and lean (and watch sketchy physics send your rider to his doom) and that's about all I needed!

*I should clarify that there are options for displaying ghosts, but I don't know if that extends beyond your own records.

I gave a ring to a girl last night.

    wait, I should correct that.

I gave a virtual ring to a virtual girl last night in a video game. Yeah, Harvest Moon.

Why did I become so nervous about it? It was such a strange feeling. I was nervous and excited, and actually happy when it was happening. I haven't had a game connect to my emotions like that in a while. So weird though. It's not even like it was the blue feather, it was just the ring which starts the dating relationship.

Anyway, been playing lots of Harvest Moon (comparatively to my other games, not compared to you guys and your hundreds of hours into games) and been enjoying it. Stuff like this makes me wish there was a screenshot tool for the 3DS though so we could share game moments.

Just picked up a 3DS XL (blue) a couple weeks back. Already filled up the SD card with Zelda, Luigis Mansion, and DK: 3D. Really digging DK and Luigi's Mansion, the 3D really shines on those two titles. Already ordered a 32GB SD card to replace the 4GB one that came with it!

Good man. Consider getting Fire Emblem, btw. It's probably the slickest game on the 3DS right now.

And whatever you do: don't buy Animal Crossing. Just don't. People will say "yeah, ben_bot, buy it!", but don't. Do not join the cult of Animal Crossing. Don't get involved in running your own town of furries. Don't engage in any of the minigames, or multiplayer. And for the love of all that is good, never ever ever shake the trees.

Did you get a Class 10 / UH1 card? The faster ones are really awesome on the 3DS, you load games in fractions of seconds.

    Apparently not:

I've heard that having a faster class SD would at least make your game/app icons on the home screen load faster when you power on the 3DS. I notice that when turned on, all built-in icons and the game card appear first and everything else a second or two later.

I've read some Chibi Robo Demo impressions and it does seem there's more to it than a mere AR/ Photography game. There at least seems to be some missions and platforming gameplay present.

Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.

I got a little excited when I saw your ship.

The only game that can break me out of Animal Crossing is, surprisingly enough, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. I've put a lot of time into that game and I've only had it about a week.
