Maybe you'll get lucky and tonight will be one of the random nights that the oilers just obliterate a team that is wildly better than them.

    Not so far

    Dear refs,

You are in fact allowed to call penalties against the Kings. Even those really obvious interference ones.

i am badly addicted to hockey this season. it's worse than ever... the fantasy league isn't helping, either. the live streams, the podcasts... i'm worried for my sanity...

In shocking news, bad goaltending costs Canada a game against a very weak Czech team.

Who knew taking not very good goalies would result in not very goaltending.

The US team left off Bobby Ryan and Byfuglien. Taking cues from Team Canada i guess.

Oh and then Burke said he should have drafted Jack Johnson, one of the leagues worst defensemen over Bobby Ryan, confirming that he is a crazy person. All other nations appreciate your inclusion of Johnson though Burke. A sincere thanks from Canada.

  • BorommakotBorommakot Registered User regular
Hey, Jack Johnson's not bad. He's just...not good.

This is a pretty good article on the selection process for the US Olympic team. It doesn't really change my gut reaction to Bobby Ryan not making it, but it makes it make more sense.

  • AngryAngry The glory I had witnessed was just a sleight of handRegistered User regular
I'll find the article today that shows how jack Johnson had actively made every single d partner that he's ever played with worse for his entire career.

And there is no justification for not taking Bobby Ryan. Especially when you look at the players that they took above him.

  • 411Randle411Randle Librarian Oook.Registered User regular
Oh, Brian Burke, never change. Continue to choose the fabled quality of "perceived intensity" over the guy who skates fast and scores goals when you're headed to a tournament on a massive ice surface that rewards fast skating and scoring over grinding. I mean, it worked so well when you were the Leafs GM, right?

Oh and for as just so incredibly stupid Ryan not making team USA is, Taylor Hall not even being considered for team Canada is dumber.

If any of you are on twitter and weren't sure if Sportsnet getting exclusivity over the NHL was the worst thing ever. Go read through @Hope_Smoke 's timeline today to read a transcription of Kypreos on the radio talking about the Burke/Ryan situation.

I think the real lesson is "don't announce your team until after Canada" - no one would hear the shitstorm about Ryan over whatever the fallout from Canada's line-up will be (maybe... probably - I'm being slightly hyperbolic).

  • AngryAngry The glory I had witnessed was just a sleight of handRegistered User regular
I don't think there's going to be much of a fallout.

People who aren't good enough to go to the olympics but probably will: Kunitz, Jbo. But even with them on the team you'll look at the roster and think how can they not win gold.

When I look at that US team I think... probably won't medal.

Finland, man, Finland's going to take it all.
Go Canada and all that but those Finns are sneaky.

  • chromdomchromdom Who? Where?Registered User regular
Crap diddly ap, I just realized I didn't set my lineup this week. I don't think.
And I don't have my phone that has the fantasy app on it.
Well, write this week off. Maybe next week.

    Moving sucks.

    So Canada's roster is out.

Nash, Kunitz and Jbo shouldn't be on the team. Nash because he just flat out hasn't been good this year and even last year wasn't amazing. Kunitz, despite what rationalization they use is half the player without Crosby, this is backed up with stats. the idea that the best player in the world is hard to play with is also the dumbest fucking thing. So Crosby gets injured and then what? We get to watch Kunitz put up 40% Corsi against the best players in the world? Fantastic.

Jbo has never and will never be as good as his reputation is. He puts up ok numbers when playing with good players and terrible numbers when playing with bad players.

At least that rat faced weasel Couture didn't make it.

Of the players 'on the bubble' I would have taken Giroux and St. Louis over Nash and Kunitz in a heartbeat. Seabrook over Jbo.

That will be an odd team for me to watch. I'll obviously be cheering for Patrice ... but that also means cheering for Subban, and that will be a difficult thing to do.

My personal Olympic hockey rooting interests are:

    1. Canada
    2. US

    4. Finland
    5. I don't care

    I like my odds!

Crazy end in the Pens/'nucks game.

And you know who sounded great for the parts of the game I was listening to at work, and looked incredible for the parts I got to watch at home? Kris Letang! I hope this is a sign he's coming back into form after his injuries.

crazy, unless you've watched any of the canucks' other games this year so far, in which case it was completely routine

The amount of games lost due to injury just by the Shark, Penguins and Canucks is absolutely insane.

A friend of mine was about to win $800 on a $2 bet. Everything else had hit; all he needed was the Canucks to not blow a two goal lead with a minute left...

Let's not get into the "which pro sports team has bilked more money from the taxpayers than the others" game. Because any team, from any pro sport, that has had a stadium built in the last twenty years is automatically an asshole, playing that game.

That being said, that story does display a whole new level of douchebaggery from a pro sports team owning group. There's pie-in-the-sky projected tax revenues from business brought into the area and that crap, and then there's lying about things that have definitely already happened when your books are open.

To be fair, beating us in a shoot out is like taking candy from a baby who shoots wide of the net when it's just the goddamn goalie and no defensemen around.

Finally got cable hooked up yesterday.
I have CBC! Who knew? Currently got EDM @ WPG on as part of Hockey Day in Canada.
