Speaking of the movie it really does say something when there hasn't been any talk of another one, Shyamalan attached or not, being made despite the first making a sizable amount of money. So we pretty much have him to thank for fucking up any potential GOOD A:TLA/Korra live action film now.

Him and pretty much anyone else involved with the film that didn't bother to stop and point out things like, "hey maybe we shouldn't go around changing the pronunciation of character's names for no apparent reason," or, "you know in the show one earth bender could practically move a mountain, so maybe having twenty working together to barely move a pebble is sort of silly."
The group of people working together probably put up the wall, and danced afterwards to celebrate. The one man is the guy who lifted the pebble then lifted a wall a 1/3rd the size of what the five man group did.

Ah, I think I always see a cut version of that clip that doesn't show the first wall, and it's been a while since I watched the movie. Regardless though, it's still five guys to do less than what one could do in the cartoon.

The real problem with that scene isn't that it takes a lot of dudes to do simple stuff, it's that it's so horribly shot. That's the slowest, shittiest action scene I think I've ever...uh, seen

The real fucked up thing about that infamous earth bending scene is that I think the 5 dudes were supposed to have brought up the wall to block the fire attack, not the stone. So why were they doing the bending motions AFTER the wall came up?!?!?!

Oh I agree with all of your points. It's terrible. I find it funny that it's shot so bad everyone, including myself, misinterpreted what was going on in that scene.

That's apparently because of M Night Shamalyan changing the cutting of the scene like 20 times over as ILM was trying to do the effects. Almost all of the compositing going on in those scenes had to be done by cribbing from b-roll footage since cuts kept changing even as they were adding effects in post-processing.

I really hope that is a cameo. They have a lot of cameos in the show so I wouldn't be surprised.

    Here's the synopsis
Avatar Aang asks his friends to help him honor Yangchen’s Festival—one of the highest Air Nomad holidays, which hasn’t been celebrated in over one hundred years.

But cryptic visits from the spirit of Avatar Yangchen herself lead Aang to discover a jointly owned Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom refinery—operating on land sacred to the Airbenders! Is this the cause of the pollution Aang finds there, or is a more mysterious menace afoot?

And apparently this book will finally show the initial construction of Republic City.

Pretty much all the bending was very dull. I think just about every major act of bending in the movie was very impractical and less effective than just running up and punching people.

Like that scene with Katara vs Zuko, where the fire moves so slowly that she may as well have just moved out of the way, but ends up spending an entire shot just doing her little bending dance to conjure up water at the last second.

This problem boils down to really bad action choreography. They're so hellbent on making it look cool that the have the actors spend more time doing showy poses than actually doing anything.

There was also the obvious problem of trying to imitate certain things from the show, while obviously not understanding the reason behind them. For example, Pakku trains Aang in the series, one of the first things he showed him was to control water by flowing it around him like a little stream.

In the movie Pakku just whips up a globe of water, and then rotates it around him in a circle for no real reason.

It's just one of many things about the movie that were made worse by being changed in ways that made zero sense, for no logical reason, because Shyamalan has his head so far up his ass to think that he understands the source material better than the people who wrote it.

Just read The Rift part 1. Two fairly major developments, both Toph related
We might have been introduced to Toph's future lover and father of Lin Beifong, and Toph is finally re-introduced to her dad which is the books cliffhanger ending.

    Overall I really liked it.

I finally watched the episode where Goku learns to drive

    It was good!

I think it's so memorable because it goes for comedic escalation rather than perilous dramatic escalation.

I also liked it because it was Dragon Ball humor segment that didn't involve Toryama using perv humor. Not that I hated all the fanservice of course.

I actually would have watched a full series about Gohan in high school trying to fit in while being a genius super-powered half-alien and also being the superhero Saiyaman. At least back then. I haven't watched Dragon Ball Z in years so I can't be certain as to how well those episodes have held up.

In other news, I read The Rift. It was actually pretty good, although I'm sad how little of Uncle Iroh has been in the entire series. Seems like he gets one cameo in the first book of each story and that's it.

Well, I was on Amazon a few days ago and it looked as if there was a date for the DVD/BR release of Book 2, July 1st. It's since disappeared, but I suppose thinking that we might get it this Summer wouldn't be too far off the mark. Then hopefully Book 3 will be later on in the year.

Just a heads-up, especially if you're trying to avoid spoilers - it looks like Nickelodeon has managed to blunder its way into a massive leak for Book 3. Apparently their Latin American website was (I think) trying to post episodes from Book 2...and wound up posting Book 3 episodes 3-6, in Spanish, to the site instead. Pretty sure they're down now, but naturally multiple people managed to see them and grab information and screenshots galore.

    So...yeah. That's out there now.

Gods, I hope not. Because the day all of these corporations get their shit together in regards to the internet is going to suck balls for those of us who use the thing.

It's staggering, really. In a franchise that's already had some crazy leaks and remarkable BS with scheduling - ATLA and LoK together - this is...just magnificently insane. They managed to leak four episodes from a season for which they haven't even announced a release date.

(And not even episodes that would make sense, like the first four. No, they dropped, like, the middle of the season, and apparently ruined a pretty sizable number of twists and reveals. My mind is blown at the sheer incompetence of it.)

Given that I'm now seeing the possibility that the leak may actually go all the way up to episode TEN of Book 3...no, I'm going to say that they were just straight incompetent. Either that or someone at MundoNick has a major vendetta against the company.

(I can't confirm the extra episodes yet, BTW. I'm trying to watch places where they might mention them, but I'm also trying to avoid more spoilers then I've already been hit with. It's...not easy.)

(Also, if it is really is episodes 3-10...hoooooooly shit.)
